That was the actual price paid by @paulguitar, the OP of this thread.

£1,900 for a three-bed for two nights, during an event weekend.

Yes, congratulations... You have finally managed to align with this thread.

He was posting to share his experience of a cheaper opportunity to rent the apartment.

I'm glad you've finally caught up! All that misdirected jealousy and rudeness from you was for nothing, you were just attacking the write up of a normal bloke that spent a few quid on a fun experience when it was affordable. I hope you realise that now, because the alternative is that you remain as a bitter bully.

The best and only thing you can do if you have any self respect is to thank Paul for his thoughtful write up and apologise for your previous responses, on the basis you thought he had spent 10x more than he had - a mistake that was entirely your own.

The question is, do you have the balls to do that...?

Literally the first sentence of the original post, which is titled 'Escapade Silverstone Weekend':

You really have to wonder whether they read the original post before responding.

Lol, you have got me all wrong, I never have and never will apologise or kiss up to anyone, it's a forum not Twitter.

1900 for 3 nights at ANY hotel is a rather large amount of money for MOST people.

There seems to be a large percentage of people here who find it fair, reasonable, decent? That suggests lot of people here are fairly well off, that is all I am saying.

If you don't like that, fine. The discussion has been interesting in the points it has raised and the topics discussed.

if we were talking about a hotel room for 2 people I may agree with you but this is the equivalent of 3 hotel rooms. so £200/night and if you think that's expensive then you've clearly not looked at hotel prices in major cities recently - even a fking premier inn in London is over £200/night.

No... 1900 for a weekend at an apartment with an amazing view, split between friends is a choice for most people. Most people can afford such a thing if they want it.

It's the minority that cannot. The minority that consider themselves the 'average', should probably try harder. God knows I did.

Give it a rest fella , it's 1900 quid for up to six people . That is not expensive but you are becoming a tad boring with your protesting , feel for the OP as he must wonder why he bothered posting . I for one found it informative and entertaining .

For 3 double rooms for 3 nights…… so £216 per night per room. Or £113 per night per person.

If you can’t afford that then you either need to work harder, or should have worked harder at school.

Not at all, I have done my research and found out how much it is to stay there at events I would attend.

It was 1300 for one night in a trackside apartment, and I think 700 ish non trackside, that was for one person. And not on race day.

That is very expensive.

The prices you quote are still pretty dear for most people, but more reasonable yes but presume you know 5 other couples you would want to share that space with a fairly unique arrangement I am sure you would agree.

It’s from £160 inc breakfast per night for a single bedroom - that’s pretty cheap.

Yes, for the apartments I’d know 3 other couples, given its 3 en-suite rooms and a shared lounge - no issue.

Getting daft now.

For F1 and a few key races, they will maximise the achievable rate as far as the market will tolerate. Like any other hotel or similar would do.

For the rest of the year, the rate adjusts to demand

Like the rest of the hotel market

It is that simple.

Agreed.

I think also much like the venue itself they look at demand pre event, clicks, they know if you are searching for certain dates and raise costs accordingly. Even of the events on those dates are not that big, ELMS is a fairly small series in the great scheme of things but the prices I have seen are pretty high. Probably due to teams etc hiring the venues. I dont know if that is the case with the Hilton, I expect so. I have just checked for the ELMS weekend, nothing available.

Would love to know how much of that sale is teams or public punters.

The internet has allowed all sorts of people an insight into peoples habits and it reflects the pricing hugely.

Indeed so. A large hotel will have someone with a fancy title such as Director of Revenue.

Their job is to price rooms to maximise income, so they spend their days looking at previous years’ rates and occupancy, follow event calendars at the hotel and in the city, follow current demand for future dates etc etc.

I suspect a lot of it is now automated and algorithmic across multiple platforms and sales channels, but a load of bookings or even enquiries for a random date in the future will be a massive red flag that something’s on and rooms are underpriced.

I think this is the case, I have already checked the dates for WEC next year and you cannot book anything at Escapade, I did not try Hilton but I expect that is being blocked aswell, presumably for teams and ACO personnel.

And that event is months and months away.

Of course its booked, its a six hour race, people will pay good money to sit on the balcony, cold beer in hand and watch the 6 hour race before being able to eat some food and sleep.....

You remember at school, when you were smoking ciggies and fingering Tracey behind the bike sheds? Well, some of us were paying attention and listening to the teachers instead. That allowed us to get a shed load of qualifications and get decent paying jobs meaning that we can squander it on £160/night 'luxury' hotels...

The problem is, it's only £160 a night if you have friends willing to stay there with you.

That same problem probably occured when it came to the stuff with Tracey too. None of this works if you're alone.

Its almost as though people involved in a global motorsport series plan ahead eh.

Whats the capacity of all the rooms...let's say 500 for ease.

Whats the average gate for a WEC event?
Google says...
Spa-Francorchamps between 88,000 and 101,000
Imola from 65,000 to over 73,000 fans
Silverstone from 2012-2019, typically between 40/45000

If you even allowed 20k for race day- likely to be a higher figure now, given the series popularity- and 500 people in rooms, you need 2.5% of attendees to stump up for a room. To avoid traffic. Get a great and unique view. Have beers with mates without having one have to drive or get a taxi. Not need to camp. Have a comfy bed. Stay dry if needed. Have a st without queuing. Have a bar nearby. Stay warm if its cold. Not have to stand around for an hour or 2 to make sure you get the view you want, and-crucially- have no need to visit Towcester.

That whole complex probably cost over 20 million to build, you have to make it back somehow.

It WAS a risk, Silverstone is not a hugely desirable place now is it, but make the places nice enough and it is clear there is an appetite for well off people to stay there.I don't think you would get many other types of people staying there, maybe groups if they can lump in together. But what is clear is it works, there is a demand and they are now planning several others similar ventures.

There is enough money to go around for people to spend considerable sums on stuff like this.

As said before it is not my world, nowhere near, but I do find it fascinating how much people are prepared to spend for a bit of convenience and other reasons that I will not go into.

...and finger Tracey as she has moved on from the bike sheds as well! biggrin
