Why no 1980s BTCC dvds?

I've got a couple of VHS of the late 80s touring cars. RS500s and E30 M3s. I've been looking for some time to get DVDs but I cannot find any at all.

The ETCC is on DVD, the rallying is on DVD, but does anybody know why the BTCC isn't available?

You'd have to ask the BBC that, as they owned the TV rights for the BTCC in those days. I guess they figured there wasn't much of a market for them.

Probably due to the lack of demand. Contact Duke who produce these and ask them why they don't re release possibly the cream of the BTCC onto DVD.

I may be wrong but wasn't Steve Ryder involved with the coverage of the BTCC for the BBC? His production company filming the races. So he would theoretically own the rights.

Where they ever a duke product? my videos don't say Duke on them anywhere. The VHS where produced by company known as BHP sport. but i don't think they exist anymore.

I have 87, 88, 89 and 90. I copied them from the VHS originals to DVD. IIRC they are all produced by BHP (Barry Hinchliffe Productions) except for 87 which was Hay-Fisher.

Steve Rider was a director of BHP Sport ( Barrie Hinchcliffe Productions) he was removed from that post in the early 1990's as other production companies complained that BHP were winning all the contracts for Grandstand and there was a conflict of interest as Rider was also a presenter for the BBC.

BHP do still exist I think they mostly do corporate work and have been involved with Mclaren F1. They still sell their titles of their old work, mostly rallying, via Duke etc.

Its not exactly a difficult job to transfer a VHS to DVD.
And there are plenty of places that will do it for you very cheaply.

You're are right, but I have this wierd condition. Its probably the result of smoking to much weed or a bump on the head. But I can't have copies or downloads of anything, and trasnfering from VHS to DVD just wouldn't be right. I must have the proper thing on my shelf.*

I've still got a video player, but the tapes are over 20 years old now. I just want to know why there are no touring car DVDs, I can't be the only person who wants them.

• however, duke probably just burn the discs and print off the sleeve work with every order anyway.

Slightly off topic but still maybe of interest. Recently a whole load of 1988/1989 BTCC (including whole races from 89) starting to appear on youtube. Plenty of awesome RS500 action! I still love the BTCC but would love to see proper quick cars again!

My copy of Donington '83 is from ITV actually, I'm not sure if BBC actually showed all those races back then.

The few races that still remains are Crystal Palace '70, Donington '83 and Silverstone '86. I've been after races from that era but never found much. Then there's a few films from Rover and Ford but that is different.

Maybe someone on here has a couple of early to mid 80s races on VHS? Surely someone should have them..
