Alonso, Massa, Barrichello, Trulli, Coulthard, Hakkinen and Schumacher himself all stated Senna was the number 1.

So clearly ex-racers know what they are talking about.
I have no problem with Senna being a lot of peoples number one, as he's a personal hero of mine ... but there is lot of misty eyed canonization going on there, which is why Prost is often overlooked (& for me, the equal of Senna)
I agree - & the number 1 isn't cast in stone anyway, Hamilton rated Senna as the greatest - but progress happens & records are beaten...at the moment, by Hamilton.

At what point of Hamilton's career did they say that though? Any links?
Don't bother - They probably all said it in 2005.... rolleyes

Prost was good at getting cars home. Useless in the wet. If he is a hero of yours I very much doubt it with this kind of statement.

Even Hill was faster than Prost in the wet laugh

Schumacher broke Senna's records yet he still rated Senna as the best ever. The same goes with Hamilton.

Anyway, you will be delighted to hear this is my last post here.

Going back to the original thread.

Let people discuss Hamilton but I expect it to die out very soon.

The GOAT IMO is Ayrton Senna and I doubt we will ever see another driver like him in the future.

So you don't think that in the intervening 9 years things may have moved on a bit, what with the Hamilton fellow winning 6 championships and 74 races since then?

Sod it, I can't be arsed. None so blind as those who deliberately refuse to see.....

Just to wade in on the G.O.A.T debate with personal thoughts if allowed....

I think there are a handful of drivers who have elevated themselves to that level, who are at a level where they are collectively difficult to split - either because the era is different and impossible to compare, or because their skill level is so high any difference is meaningless.

Fangio, Clark, Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton are to my mind, the absolute best of the best.

Anyone who thinks Hamilton wouldn't shine in the 60s - we will never know. But Let's be clear, Fangio wouldn't be pulling 6g's in a corner - era's are different and what makes great "great" is probably quite different now vs then. I'd wager that Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton would absolutely shine in anything though.

Senna was outrageously quick in qualy. Clark could drive anything quicker than anyone without breaking it. Schumacher ruthless racer and elevated F1 drivers up a level with his all round skill. Hamilton is absolutely as quick in my opinion as Senna when he is "on it", and as good a racer as Schumacher. With none of the negative driving associated with Senna and schumacher....

In my mind, either Hamilton, Senna, Schumacher, Clark or Fangio are deserving of a higher accolade than the next layer of (still very exceptional) talent.

I know, it's odd, very odd. It's great to have an opinion but trying to justify it with a ridiculously illogical thought process is beyond weird.

it's also incorrect ...as Coulthard had already changed his opinion (not that i expected Jim to fact check anything)

Has Lewis done anything since 2012 ?

Oh, his greatest achievements where since Michael sadly has his little mishap.

With so many saying Senna was the GOAT, who did he rate ? Oh, Terry Fullerton. He must be the GOAT following your logic.

Doesn't surprise me. I asked him for links and he decided to bail out of the thread.

Jim mentioned that Hamilton couldn't be good as Button scored more points than him over 3 seasons in the same car.
Now he is saying that the GOAT is Senna, bare in mind that Senna never score more points than Prost in the same car in any season they had together... strange logic.

Yep, and so was Herbert on occasion but ELUSIVEJIM has his fingers up his nose or something...

Apart from Lewis, who is marginally better in every aspect.
