Lewis Hamilton G.O.A.T. ?

Just to wade in on the G.O.A.T debate with personal thoughts if allowed....
I think there are a handful of drivers who have elevated themselves to that level, who are at a level where they are collectively difficult to split - either because the era is different and impossible to compare, or because their skill level is so high any difference is meaningless.
Fangio, Clark, Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton are to my mind, the absolute best of the best.
Anyone who thinks Hamilton wouldn't shine in the 60s - we will never know. But Let's be clear, Fangio wouldn't be pulling 6g's in a corner - era's are different and what makes great "great" is probably quite different now vs then. I'd wager that Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton would absolutely shine in anything though.
Senna was outrageously quick in qualy. Clark could drive anything quicker than anyone without breaking it. Schumacher ruthless racer and elevated F1 drivers up a level with his all round skill. Hamilton is absolutely as quick in my opinion as Senna when he is "on it", and as good a racer as Schumacher. With none of the negative driving associated with Senna and schumacher....
In my mind, either Hamilton, Senna, Schumacher, Clark or Fangio are deserving of a higher accolade than the next layer of (still very exceptional) talent.
Still Clark for me; 58 years ago today...I think there are a handful of drivers who have elevated themselves to that level, who are at a level where they are collectively difficult to split - either because the era is different and impossible to compare, or because their skill level is so high any difference is meaningless.

By all means feel free to disagree with me. I've found him to be almost universally disliked amongst petrolheads I've encountered, for similar reasons.
Speaks more about the people you hang around with than it says about Hamilton. That you don't mention any first hand evidence speaks volumes about you.MarkwG said:

So you're insulting me and my friends because you have a different opinion on somebody? And using memes?Hardly a gold standard of intellectual discourse.
He's a hypocrite because he wears a chain round his neck to show he has ancestors were slaves. Yet he's sponsored by Mercedes who built parts for gas chambers, made Hitler's armoured car and used thousands of Jewish slaves. His other sponsor Hugo Boss made Nazi uniforms using slaves.
He's a race baiter because of his many racist and anti-white statements.
He's publicly supported Black Lives Matter, which are a Marxist organisation with truly vile beliefs.
So no, he's not G.O.A.T, he's just some horrid tt from London who a great many people can't stand.

Hamilton is a vile individual. A hypocrite, a race-baiter and a supporter of Marxism.
In your opinion... which of course you and your friends are entitled to. Interesting that you came here just to tell us that... He has a following, racing fans, who appreciate what he’s achieved, his talent and his willingness to speak out. Not you of course.

Hardly an insult, more a statement of fact - try reading the whole thread, & the associated ones - your hackneyed comments have been made many times already & have been refuted. You've obviously never met the man, yet you're happy to base your judgement on the usual gutter journalism & "my mates all say" bull manure. You make no comments regarding his driving at all, yet you expect intellectual debate...
I base my views on his statements of support for BLM, and BLM's own manifesto. It has nothing to do with the Guardian or any other gutter journalism.
Moreover his driving is irrelevant if his political views are abhorrent. This is 2021, it's time we called out people like him for the damage they do to society. Your outdated views are clearly very out of step with the majority of people in this country.

Mercedes and WW2? Check
Hugo Boss and Nazi uniforms? Check
BLM & Marxism? Check
I call “ignorant white man bingo!” first, what do I win?

Mercedes, like other German companies, acknowledged their nazi past. It’s all there on their website, reappraisal and reparations

Hamilton supports the basic BLM message, not the wider, deeper political stance.

All this he shouldn’t have anything to do with organisations who HAD a Nazi past.... should he not have anything to do with white people because, before the Nazi’s, there was a time when black people were slaves, property owned by white people?
You jump in with your simplistic view, thinking you have all figured out but really, you have no idea.
Multi millionaire Lewis Hamilton, the Marxist. Seriously? See what I mean? You say all that stuff but you don’t really have a point.

Have the FIA started dishing out points based on your jewellery or if your a hypocrite ?
I must have missed it.
I thought it was all purely decided on track (with the odd excursion obviously)
Does this chap win at trackdays by turning up with the right T shirt and trainers ?
Lewis does have his moments but describing him as a vile individual is defiantly beyond track limits.
