What more could Schumacher do? He came back from his broken leg and destroyed everyone in qualifying and then followed a 1-2 for Ferrari in the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Schumacher got pole in the final race 1.5 seconds faster than Irvine who started 5th. I am sure if there was any way of Schumacher helping Irvine anymore he would have but alas Irvine just wasn't good enough in that final race weekend.
Thats the point though, did Schumacher do everything he could ?, did enough to secure WCC but not quite enough to give Irvine the WDC. Given Schumacher's ego, being at the centre of the Ferrari revival then having Irvine win their first WDC in 20 years might have been too bitter a pill to swallow. Why don't you start a thread about Schumacher rather than post that link on the thread about Hamilton?Hazmat1 said:
Didnt Ferrari manage to bungle Irvine's pit stop at a critical part of the season, seemed frightfully convenient to ensure there were no awkward explanations as to why MS wasn’t their first champion of that era
Yes, just like Mercedes bungled Russell's pit stop in Sakir in order to placate Hamilton, or how they bungled Hamilton's pit stop in Hockenhiem for........ some reason. But actually, in that 1999 European GP at the Nurgurgring, McLaren also screwed Hakinnen's race, inexplicably leaving him out on the wrong tyres, lapping something like 7 seconds slower than the leaders before deciding to cut their losses.
In the final stages of the race, when Irvine and Hakinnen suddenly realised they could get some points, it was Hakinnen who was able to show his class by catching and passing Irvine and then pulling away to score 2 crucial championship points while Irvine trailed home with nothing.

You really are anti-Hamilton aren't you? Hamilton was not in Sakir, nor in contact with the team that weekend. How could it possibly have been to placate him? Bottas? Just maybe, but not likely.C350Akra said:

Irvine was a proper number 2 driver.
By comparison, Bottas is a proper Number 3 Eddie Ervine, 9 years in F1:
4 wins
0 pole
26 podiums
1 fastest lap
Valterri Bottas, 7 years in F1:
9 wins
16 poles
57 podiums
16 fastest laps
Bottas has accomplished most of his trophy cabinet against the most successful driver in F1 history.

You do that every time. You introduce facts against Sparta's prejudice. That's really not fair.
Yes, i am sorry. I will not do it again. I like Sparta, he is entertaining and play a good game without being rude. He likes Mikka I believe which I do so I enjoy his banter. I know deep down he has a huge respect for Hamilton but like me with Alonso, I can't stand the diva that he is but will always respect the tremendous driver that he was (annoys me that he is still on the start line these days... Lol) M5-911 said:

2 of Eddie’s wins were also gifted to him by team mates pulling over for him.
George was hardly going to call it a bucket of bolts was he......
