RE: Prodrive Sunday Service 19/02
Discussion
Its happening all over, Shelsley Walsh had some people do the same leaving their breakfast club. They put a guy on the gate who note down reg plates and then banned the people doing it. They did it via email to all the people who signed up and said these people arent welcome back.
Name and shame works a treat.

Don't give the Aston driver any credibility that it was fishtailing (as it suggests it was done properly). Its just an idiot who can't drive. Nearly loses it coming out, gathers it up with brakes and then boots it completely the other way. And then that white Porsche...
I was embarrassed by what I saw. It was disrespectful end of. Imagine if you were Dave Richards looking out of your office window at all these people you had invited to your amazing factory hooning it out of your gates in some cases really dangerously. 15mph signs and a request from PH not to do it.
I wouldn't invite PH back again if I was Prodrive so totally get why MBW haven't aswell if that is the case.
PH need to get more on the case aswell though - shouldn't accept these invites from these companies or organise them if there aren't enough people to help marshall it a bit and make it absolutely clear this cannot happen again.

The Golf R's made me chuckle.... "Hey look at me i'm going to launch!". Followed by the most boring, silent, least impressive take off ever. Just dont do it, its not impressive and people are only watching because they want you to crash.
Also the the youtube gimp covering the fish tailing Aston's number plate. Should have shwon it for all the world to see.
Agreed, LC is completely naff and totally uncool. Blue 12C and Lambo SL showing that a quiet, dignified exit is sub-zero on the cool scale. Also the the youtube gimp covering the fish tailing Aston's number plate. Should have shwon it for all the world to see.

I hate it when I have to be the responsible adult. I've spent forty odd years resisting it.
Just for the official line on this...
There are many examples all over the internet of people "getting it wrong" and crashing their cars into other cars / lamp posts / other scenery on their way to or from "car meets". Events where driving like that is condoned are irresponsible and always short lived because as soon as the Police / local residents / neighbouring businesses become aware, they are pressured into no longer hosting events. Sometimes things are even worse and someone gets hurt, which is obviously a worst case scenario and an even faster way to end an event.
PH Sunday Services are intended to be a cut above events like that, and furthermore we aim to distance ourselves from that sort of culture entirely. Our events are all about appreciating cars, their owners and our host venue in a grown up and respectful way. On top of this, unlike unofficial "car meets", Sunday Services are run professionally. What do I mean by this? I mean that we are covered under Haymarket's Public Liability insurance, we undertake risk assessments and we work with our hosts to ensure the events run in a way that is both enjoyable, sensible and safe for anyone to attend. With this in mind, if there was an avoidable incident caused by poor driving standard and people not adhering to our rules it is extremely likely that Sunday Services would be no more.
Lastly, to those of you who mentioned the "PH staffer filming" the exit, that was our social media guy, who was filming some footage of the event in general. As part of that film, he captured some footage of people leaving in a respectful and sensible way... and then walked off. To be really specific about it we've reviewed his footage and we can tell you that he filmed for 3 minutes between 10:44 and 10:47 and captured just 4 cars leaving, all sensibly. Therefore to suggest that he was there in order to either capture "dramatic" driving or encourage it is entirely incorrect.
So, to summarise and make this crystal clear for everyone;
- Driving fast on the way in or out of a Sunday Service is never, EVER welcome, encouraged or allowed. If you want to drive fast, we provide multiple opportunities each year to do that in a safe and controlled environment (Silverstone and Santa Pod are both already on the Calendar!). DO NOT DO IT.
- If you see people taking photos and video of you as you leave then please just ignore them and gently waft past them, both because it is far cooler and because those people you're trying to impress are really only there in the hope that you get it wrong and they capture it on film so that they can share your misjudgment / misfortune with the entire internet. To them this is like mana from heaven. We'll investigate ways to prevent this in future too.
- We view people that fail to obey this simple principal as people that are specifically looking to damage PH's reputation and risk future Sunday Services for all members. As such, if you do not obey this simple rule you will not be welcome at future events.
- We will continue to make this clear in the joining instructions sent to all attendees of Sunday Services, so ignorance is not an excuse. Please help us to police this by actively discouraging poor driving standards yourselves, or by notifying a member of the PH team immediately if you see someone driving badly.
We love Sunday Services and we're glad that so many of you love them too. Long may they continue.

Mine did (it's the silver 3 Series patiently waiting) as the muppet in the red A45 tries to "impress" at 13.50 I hate it when I have to be the responsible adult. I've spent forty odd years resisting it.

You talk about risk assessment and insurance, but I can't see any control measures in the vid.
It is a shame to hear that people could not leave sensibly. I am all for a bit of fun, but some of those driveouts were embarrassing. Unfortunately the minority will soon spoil it for the rest of us - we have already lost MBW as a result of this. How many more might go? Name, shame and ban.

Kind of disagree with name, shame and ban being the first port of call. Pro-active measures (having marshalls, taking registrations etc, more staff presence in general) are going to be better at preventing this than reactive measures. TTR46 said:

Shouldnt need marshalling to be honest....we're all adults and should know better.I certainly think taking down Registrations would be worthwhile. Maybe a slap on wrist for first offense and a ban after that might be the way to go.
Also, not entirely sure of the cost....but wouldn't some ALPR software be a good way of checking off people coming to Sunday Services? If we were required to put our Reg down when we sign up, couldn't and app or something (I'm not technical) check these against a database as people arrive to quickly tell if they're on the list or not?

^This. Marshals or not, the ultimate responsibility is with the driver, in any case. The PH SS is a free event. The last thing we as members should be doing is adding to the cost or hassle of admin and hosting.Edited by Digga on Tuesday 21st February 16:45
