Subtle and quite, it ain’t.
Can't keep up with your purchases. Be good to see this and how well it goes on track!

Your drive by will always be less than your static as the measurement is taken from a greater distance. Silverstone's 102dB drive-by is very high in comparison to most tracks and I doubt any cars will fail that unless modified. My car at Snettorton measured 107dB static (exceeded by 5 dB) and the marshal still let me on the circuit and it never triggered the 92 dB drive by limit.
I’m running a JCW system with a equal length manifold and decat. It’s proper loud under load although much better than it was on the chav system the car came with.

I’m hoping it’ll be ok but a few minis with the same set up got flagged at Brands a month or so ago when I went with them, but in my Mx5.
Brands is 92dB drive by, 102dB is twice as loud.

I struggle myself sometimes. Lol.

I think I’m settled now. Sensible diesel daily, hot Hatch and an MX5. Perfect 3 car garage for a man with my budget.

I’m on the 9am session and if my dad doesn’t make t along you can jump in the passenger seat.

Two more questions if anyone can help smile

1. Which circuit configuration will it be? Would like to learn the track beforehand.

2. In the Silverstone Ts&Cs it says that suction mounted dashcams are not permitted. How do people get around this as the vast majority I have seen are suction mounted? Would love to get some footage. I have a Nextbase 312 if that helps.

Thanks!

I’ve run a suction mount there a couple of times with no issue. Mostly because no one ever checks.

My advice is if you’re in a 4 seater mount it in the back. That way if for some reason it does come loose it won’t end up under your peddles.

It’ll be the National circuit.

Lots of previous SS track videos on YouTube that will give you a flavour. I always enjoy watching them.

Very interesting I measured 106dB (109dB on the o/s rattle baffle) I’m thinking to book now you’ve said that.
Be careful - sound in decibels is not a linear measurement. 106dB is getting on for twice the sound pressure level as 102 dB (but for a human to perceive it as twice as loud, the difference needs to be more like 9-10dB). It's true about the drive-by, as the soundwave loses energy according to the square law, so twice the distance = 1/4 of the energy in the sound wave.

Most production cars will be nowhere near 102dB for the drive-by test; things that would likely fail are anything very exotic and/or (near) unsilenced. Last year a V8 F-type R was going round without issue and they are not the quietest of cars.

My understanding is as long as the suction cup is tethered then you’re fine. Certainly when I ran at Rockingham no one even checked but I did tether it.

Steve Warburton (Instructor at Silverstone) said in the briefing at the SS earlier this year to ignore the T&Cs regarding cameras - they're outdated and need updating! Suction mounts are fine - as long as it's properly secured / mounted.

Defo no hand held phone cameras however.

Thanks. I’ve just booked on the 10:45 Novice session. Although I’m an ARDS licence holder it will officially be my 1st time solo in this car. Runs a decat sports system... nice to hear about the F-type but as a TVR driver am I supposed to say they a “soft” lol wink

That’s good to know, I was driving with one of these around wales earlier this year and we were about the same noise level

I will just add that of course 'caveat emptor' applies - if someone's car gets blackflagged for being too noisy please don't complain that I said it would be fine! eekwobble

Hi all,

New to this and have a couple of questions.

1. Do I need extra insurance to be allowed on track?
2. Do I need a helmet and can I rent one on the day?

Cheers

Yo don’t “need” extra insurance but if the worst happens you are liable then it comes down to if your insurance covers that? If not it is a personal liability I believe?

Sorry if it's been asked already but are we able to bring a passenger with us during the track time?

Yes but they'll need a helmet and probably a wrist band?

Haven't been to a SS for a number of years, Would be my first on a motorbike, do I need to book a spot and are the print-off things in operation?
