This is the Lampredi twin-cam isn't it? What a cracking engine.

I'd bite their arm off for a bag of sand. Probably negotiate some change too. Mmmm, South Wales... just the bridge toll to pay.

Well said that man. Bored of German nonsense, there is nothing quite like a creaky, rusty (?), charismatic Italian SHED.

Interesting though that the age old 'all Italian cars have some sort of electrical issue' is still doing the rounds. For the record, my 16 year old Delta has never had an electrical issue. Ever... But then again I do check the fuses smile

One more EDIT.. Looks like he only bought it 5 weeks ago according to this 3 week old post on fiatforum.com http://www.fiatforum.com/tipo/135801-calling-all-t...

Always worries me when they say how long they wanted a car for, finally bought it and then sold it two minutes later. Not helped by 'I couldn't be bothered to change a fuse'.

I had one of these for 9 years. One of the best cars I've owned. Huge fun, epic noise and never let me down. The front and rear subframes rot on them but the front subframe is shared with the Alfa GTV so finding a replacement isn't too difficult. Bottom end on these engines is also fairly weak and thats what killed off most of the 600-odd that came to the UK.

5 door cars have different ECU's from the 3-door cars. The 5-doors are more revvy and the 3-doors have a touch more torque.

Great fun to drive though and highly rated in its day by the motoring press. I miss mine!

Fantastic shedding. If the motor is sound enough, I would take it along to Guy Croft in Lincoln and get him to fettle it up to a few more horsepower, should see another 50 or so quite easily.

Interesting shed. Those front spotlights look crap though.

Assume you can get the same engine/chassis in an Alfa 145/146??

Yup, platform is shared with the 145/146/155 Alfas. Arguably a better car to drive though. I always preferred the twin cam in this to the Alfa TS engine.

We used to a black one when they first came out. Really good car apart from the oil warning light being constantly lit even after 5 visits to the dealers workshop but then that's Italian electrics ! Used to go through front tires as well and did suffer from torque steer as well.
For some reason our one had the Abarth scorpion badges on the back and front wings.

I've been looking for a black one for a while as ours ended needing too much work to be road worthy so was sent to the great breakers yard in the sky.

I remember hiring a Tipo back in '94 and the gearstick came off in my hand when I tried to select reverse! biggrin

It was still a decent driver though smile

Actually owned one of these in the 80s. It was essentially a Tipo with Alfa running gear. Went and handled extremely well and had exceptionally good brakes.

Sadly, mine broke a timing belt about six months after it had been replaced and the damage that did was quite spectacular. I eventually rebuilt the engine OK but never really trusted it after that so ended up selling it on.

i had a black '92 first gen (150 hp) 5 door - cracking cracking car. totally unassuming to look at, but had a brilliant chassis and engine, and fantastically supportive recaro's - used to drink a lot of oil, valve stem seals had dried up, but wasn't an issue really. got replaced with my first company car, sorry day.

If she's still got most of her 143bhp, I expect the Tipo could show up alot of the small alternative 'sporty' hatches that are slightly newer!? e.g VTR, SXI

I had similar experience with other car (Russian Volga), was driving 60 on something like cross between a and B road and when tryed to shift from 4th to 5th - gear stick came off. Just had to stuck it back and continued smile Still remember that feeling

Italian language v English, mmm we have 1.5 million words in our dictionary and they have 250,000. Keats makes a good job of making it sound good. As for this shed, I only thought yesterday, in light of TR7 flack, that Fiat had made some very ordinary looking cars cars. I would probably like driving it but the design...
