Bit strange that this kind of thing gets its own article, isn't it? Maybe as a wild-card entry on "YKYWT" wink

Edit: Hah! Just saw that this is YKYWT, full marks for attention

How about turning it upside down and filling it with jelly? you could then have a le Mans themed party and a full size 917 edible jelly sculpture as a centre piece.... actually I think i'm going to bob a bid in and do this for my wedding.
Brilliant!

"He reckoned you could take the body off a 911, turn the engine around and mount it further forward"
That'll be more or less a Boxster then!

Forget turning it into a real car, just turn it into wall art! It'd look great on my garage wall.

I couldn't have anything like this because of my speech impediment, which means this would always sound like weplica.

As someone who would give body parts for a 917 rep or not this has me salivating cloud9
Shell plus spaceframe plus Pork flat 6 & box from Boxster is close enough for me.
Those who don't like replicas get real. If you want a 917 (as I do) without a pools win then a rep is the only way to go. Flat 12s are a bit thin on the ground & V8 would sound & look wrong, so Flat 6 is the only way. In fact those talking about V8s it probably wouldn't fit under the rear deck, these things are damn low.

Getting one of these through IVA is next to impossible though, headlight height being the first thing that comes to mind.

If I couldn't get a rolling chassis under it and my wall wasn't strong enough to make it wall art, how about turning it into the ultimate dedicated X-Box games seat?
Once you've got a HD TV screen installed it would be a great place to sit and watch Steve McQueens "Le Mans" too

Always been my favourite racing car - I want one!

With you there. If it's a case of owning a replica of a car or never owning one at all, then replica it is.

There are a number of kit car manufacturers who could construct you a bespoke spaceframe chassis to fit underneath ( for enough cash ), something along the lines of an Ultima but dimensions altered to fit the body. A 911 turbo engine and box would be ideal, but even a Boxster S lump with 260bhp would power it nicely.

There are companies out there already which offer 917 reps, some road legal too.

I'd be interested to know the dimensions of it.

Good question, I believe one of the specialists will do one offs for a price. Someone must do the Group C cars or similar. The side & rear could be acrylic or perspex.
Trying not to think or research this too much as I'm seriously a heartbeat from buying it biggrin
