and ow, they also have nice GT40 and Bailey P4 replica with a BMW 850 v12 5l engine

Another use?
Fix it to a bed with motorised raising gear
Could sleep under it?
Novel bedcover - better than a four poster.
Nooky in a 917?

If some one cuts this body up I will come round a knock some sense into them.....

This needs to be put on the road with a Turbo 911 motor at least...
This would make any 911 owner have a crisis if they saw it go past them, its one of my dream cars I must admit....

Ha! Thought you might pop up on this thread.. 917 is my favourite car. Can you bang a couple of flat sixes together in your workshop Clive?

Option 1. BUY the latest OCTANE magazine-they have a fully built 917 replica for sale without the heartache.
Option 2. OR buy some Porsche shares, go to Stuttgart with the shell and ask them if you can have a look in their bins. A pound to a penny you would get some engineers to moonlight and help with the project-BUT don't tell the bean counters-the ones wearing VW or Audi badges.
Option 3. Ask Mr Pagani to lend you an old Zonda test chassis with all the moving bits attached, and some badges. Then you would have a Pagani-Porsche and secure the exclusivity most of us secretly crave.
Option 4. Start a Pistonheads members commune and build it to publicise the site-I'm sure that Pistonheads Inc would lend more than moral support.

Option 5. Whatever happens-have fun with it-hearty congrats on the weekend Jenson, brains defeating feet again.

Surely a crash damaged Boxster would be the easiest donor. Then you just need a huge great turbo to at least give it some suitable power, even if it won't sound right.

What about turning it upside down, filling it with jelly and let group of nubile, scantily clad ladies fight it out ( or blokes, wichever you prefer). That should give us something to watch inbetween races and probably increase attendance!

Strewth, what a load of bunkum gets said over this.

As the owner, at present, of this correct bodyshell i would just like to ask what on earth do you do if you damage or destroy your original 917s bodywork
or do not have the money to buy a genuine one.. Oh, incedentally ,there are no totally original 917s in existance.

So you have always wanted to have a 917. You have to start somewhere and a complete correct bodyshell at that price is, quite frankly, a gift. Find another.

As for Adrian Hamiltons stupid comments..The GT40 and 917 he sourced for his Gulf collector can hardly be said to be totally original and correct. Neither is mine but at least i drive mine in anger with just the same looks and feel as the originals.
It would have been polite if the originator of this thread had contacted me first and got hold of all the right details instead of contacting just a car dealer.

As someone who would give body parts for a 917 rep or not this has me salivating cloud9
Shell plus spaceframe plus Pork flat 6 & box from Boxster is close enough for me.
Those who don't like replicas get real. If you want a 917 (as I do) without a pools win then a rep is the only way to go. Flat 12s are a bit thin on the ground & V8 would sound & look wrong, so Flat 6 is the only way. In fact those talking about V8s it probably wouldn't fit under the rear deck, these things are damn low.

Getting one of these through IVA is next to impossible though, headlight height being the first thing that comes to mind.
With you there. If it's a case of owning a replica of a car or never owning one at all, then replica it is.
But isn't that the same thing? Not knocking replicas when done well, especilly when they are based on classic metal rather than something more modern, but at the end of the day it's not the real thing and as such you've still "never owned one at all", just something that looks like one?

Missed this thread the first time round.

If you can't afford the original something that looks and "feels" like the original is the next best thing. A good GT40 replica will give you 98% of the feeling of driving a real GT40 for 2% of the price of a real one.

PS I met Graham, the owner of the 917 replica, and he's a nice guy who is open and honest about his rather lovely car
