i like the concept very much and i think it will sell well..
only thing is im not convinced on the styling, some of the classic Ginettas were great to look at, and had amazing flowing lines, but i suppose that was the 60s
id love one of these, with a 2.3 duratec (which i know has been done many times), and price wise it wouldnt be too much more than what they are asking for the G40, but much more impractical
incase anyone isnt familiar, its a Dare Ginetta G12 (250BHP, 550kgs)

Pictures never tell the story. Some cars look good in them, others not.
You need to see what everyone else sees... a car on the move!
Steve Sutcliffe plainly and obviously really likes it. View it in full screen.

As others said, the rear end is best (and hopefully what most other drivers see).
At least Ginetta is going in a sensible and correct direction, unlike Lotus.

I would love to have one of those, sadly double the price I paid for my Elise.

So, what was this thread about ?
Oh yes, the new road going version of the Ginetta 4-pot race car - it was a bit of a long wait for the G50 road car (I think one made, and then a big silence). However I reckon it is a great idea to try a track/day car on the market, and I would hope for some seriously good engineering under the skin for that money. It is great news that it is still legal to make a car without a million and one computer aids.
The G40R is similar in many ways to my 4.5 litre V8 Marcos coupe, but about 50kg lighter and with a small engine. So which one is more tempting as a track/day car ? Well the Marcos lacks the full roll cage, and I am slowly sorting brakes and suspension to get it more of a track animal - but it does have the bellowing V8 and is half the price, with about 275bhp per ton. Both might be quick, but its the V8 that would give me the goosebumps.
I still like the idea of the G40R, but not 4-pot in-line engines, and space looks cramped under the bonnet for anything else. Thinks .. Aprilia V4 race engine ...cheap tax - its only 1000cc officer !

Sat in the white car this morning.
I would say entry and exit is comparable to an Elise.
Fractionally more space once inside. Steering wheel also adjusts for rake and reach.
Fit and finish (on the white car that has done the rounds with journalists) not up to Elise standards. Nearer kit car than production car standards but some work still ongoing in this area.
Chassis is massively strong looking and almost a shame to cover.
Looks even smaller in the showroom than in the videos.

Surely this is what 2012 is all about? The Toyota GT86 and this g40r should show the way to other companys that small nimble cars with steering feel and intimacy is what car enthusiasts want.
Plus you can get the power upped by Ginetta on request according to the autocar video review, up to 280bhp!
Love the G40R, no matter what Evo said about it...
Please Harris do a video on this affordable road racer.

I don't think this is a repost. If so sorry . . .
G40R Michelin Test

Some good detail shots. Also an annoying track/music montage of sorts.

A good follow up to the GT86 piece, the trend towards lower powered cars and the range on offer etc....Plus you can get the power upped by Ginetta on request according to the autocar video review, up to 280bhp!

For those that haven't driven them, what it's like to live with a bog standard Caterham / Elise / G40R / MX5 / GT86.

Would the G40 be suitable for rallying, assuming the suspension etc is tweeked for purpose? I'm thinking that the G40 could be competitive with the Darrian or Escort. Or is that market too small?
Just resurrecting this thread for no other reason than I can, but I saw the note above and thought I would point out that a G40 rally car was entered on this last weekends Beverley and District Motor Club’s East Ridings Stages (closed road rally). It finished 70th overall (out of 100, I think) and 13th in the 1600 - 2000cc class.https://www.facebook.com/171110450057399/posts/132...

Probably a very good car for the circuit type rallies.
I think it’s a real pity that Ginetta did not persevere with these as a road car.
