Get well soon, Rowan.

Oh, and hats off to you for using the F1 with regularity. I'm sure the good folk at Woking will have your car back ship shape soon enought.

All the best,

C.

No problem - maintaining and sharing the most accurate account of the history of McLaren F1s is what I (try to) do.

And yes, #25R in particular was quite a mess when it arrived back in the pits.

Having spent the best part of a day poking around it, that picture brought back the "taste" I had in my mouth!

Does anyone know where all the fire stories concerning Rowan Atkinson's car are coming from?

Takin from the BBC article:

"A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews brought the fire under control by 8.13pm. They made the vehicle safe and used one hose reel to put out the fire."

But from the photo posted it doesn't look like there is any evidence of a fire?

Of course, it is possible that the car went on fire after the crash, or it actually did go on fire but it was actually a very minor one - hence the one hose.

Most importantly, however, I am very glad that Rowan got away relatively unscathed. I hope he makes a speedy recovery smile

That brought back memories of having McNish's Audi come past on the back of a lorry at Le Mans this year. Frightening and awesome all at the same time.

Here's a statement from his agent:

Agent Peter Bennett-Jones yesterday revealed Atkinson was driving home after working on his latest film Johnny English Reborn, in which he plays a clumsy English spy.

Mr Bennett-Jones said: ''He suffered a painful shoulder injury but we are expecting him to be discharged later. He is shaken but not stirred.

''I think he was in pain and had some painkillers and stayed in hospital because obviously he didn't have a car to get home. It is nothing more serious than that.

''I spoke to the hospital and they said he was kept in overnight in observation and his shoulder was in pain.

''I have no idea if the car has been written off. It's been removed and I'm sure he won't want it to be written off.

''It has been taken back to his home and I'm sure he will want to get it repaired straight away.

''Rowan has been finishing off the editing of his latest Johnny English film and probably on the way back home, as he only lives round the corner in Northamptonshire.

''He will be very rattled by the whole thing and I think he'll want to keep as low profile as possible.''

The Cobra was the original car to be nicknamed "The Widow-maker".

Plenty of 'bikes had had the nickname before though. hehe
The term probably started with some half-arsed, over-engined, almost-unflyable aircraft didn't int?

Car did its job. It kept him alive, and will undoubtedly be fixed.

Just pleaased he's ok. A legendary petrolhead. No doubt he's gutted about damaging his pride and joy.

Ah well that's OK then isn't it? I think not...whatever his involvement it makes him a lowlife only concerned with making money and caring not a moment about the lives he ruins, so I don't think his removal from the gene pool was such a bad thing.

Back to this accident though, with regards to reports of fire I've see several accidents where steam from radiators has been mistakenly identified as smoke, years ago a friend of mine stuffed his car into a hedge and he thought the car was on fire when in fact it was steam coming off his headlights.

The other comment about the doors being 'ripped off' is probably from someone who isn't aware the the F1 doors open upwards like that.

I'd imagine that RW's straps weren't done up very tightly and as a result he's been injured as someone's already said by moving around in the car. I was told by a rally car driving friend that harnesses did more damage unless they were used properly and tightened, looks like that was teh case here. Good news he's Ok with only minor injuries.

All in all it doesn't look at that bad to me, despite the Mirrors sensational headline.

Agreed. Given the value of the vehicle unless its significantly damaged in areas we cant see from the picture it will be back on the road and will probably be safer than 70% of cars in production today.

Glad to hear he's escaped relatively unscathed, Mclaren F1's may be rare, but there's only one Rowan Atkinson.
