There's not all that much the factory do in the way of "upgrades".
Oh? So no improved brakes, suspension parts etc.? That's an odd approach for McLaren to take - if you take your Zonda back to Pagani, for example, they'll sell you all kinds of upgrades.

That's because the Zonda has been continually developed and upgraded.

So its a Cat D D?
CatD is if the insurance company don't repair it. If its repaired under the insurance then no Cat tags are applied to the car.
Reminded me of this,

E: Voila, Mrs. Miggins. My robes of State. My thousand pounds well spent,
I think.

M: Oooohhh, very nice! Oooohhhhhh, it's real cat, isn't it?

E: This is not cat, Mrs. Miggins. This is finest, leather-trimmed ermine
with gold medallion accessories.

M: Oh go on, Mr. Blackadder -- it's cat. Oooh, look, they've left the little
collars on!

E: (reads a collar) `Mr. Frisky. If found, please return to Emma Hamilton,
Marine Parade, Portsmouth'? oh God! Ah, well, who cares about a dead cat
now that I'm a fat cat.

If it's related to an original Type-approval, they won't depart from what's been approved.

I think you've just disproved your own point. I'd have the silver one all day long.

It's a "longtail" developed for the racing cars to improve aerodynamics.

That's just opinion though. My point was that surely the later cars were subtly different in many ways and maybe Rowan would consider incorporating some of the later parts (similar to fitting Zonda F brakes to a C12S) into his car's rebuild.

One of three IIRC. Built to homologate the racers.

Would he fit a more technologically advanced engine? Or upgrade the engine fr more power.

Or is it a case of it's got more than enough as is.

Well none of those three would have ever done a lap of LeMans. They are all road cars.

However, in 1995 which was the first year of the F1 GTRs competing there, #03R set the fastest qualifying time at Le Mans of 3:58.780. The following year, one of the Gulf-liveried GTRs (#12R) shaved 8 seconds off that time for 3:50.246. Then in 1997 when the longtails arrived another 4+ seconds was trimmed off of that for 3:45.973 by GTR #24R, one of the FINA/BMW Motorsports liveried GTRs.

No official (or unofficial) 'Ring time exists for the McLaren F1. If flemke did it people would discount it because of the modifications made to his car. I still would encourage him to take a stab at it though, for the sake of 'Why not?'. biggrin

That standard engine is 627 bhp I think. There is an upgrade to the LM spec engine which I think is 670bhp. I think that they will not fit the upgraded engine to a car unless it has the high down-force kit - though I guess if you know the right people, you could get it done.

If he's destroyed the rear wheels and brakes, I could understand him going the Flemke route with regard to those. I expect that he'll want to keep it original (sic) though.

I don't know: I'm not the owner.

Maybe he'd like upgraded / revised suspension or brakes (if upgraded versions exist) etc. - I'm not talking about halfords modifications or trying to make it look like it belongs in a rap video.

The sort of thing I was referring to would be similar to the upgrades Simon George (Evo contributor) had fitted to his Murciélago when it returned to Sant'Agata for some major work.
