Of course they could argue. People can argue with everything?
Ok then i'll rephrase that. It's would be pointless to argue.

Yes, I'd say it would be pointless to argue. What purpose do you think it would serve?

Did the camera man really chase the Porsche up the the road until it got to some traffic lights, or is this a spy video courtesy of Porsche's marketing department?

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking smile Nothing wrong with a cheesy viral (as long as it's digital anyway!)

I'm a 911 lover, any shape or form, especially this one (and the one before that and the one before... .. .). Look, you either get the 911 or you don't. I'm mostly disappointed with PH readership in that you don't?

It's a 911. It's not a 921, 978, 911.5 or even a 1011 - it's a 911. Should they make like Toyota and name yet another completely different car Corolla?

yes I do think complaining that it looks like the last one is a bit daft - Porsche have been doing this very successfully for years, they aren't going to change while it's still working.

You tell me. We both have a different opinion but i back mine up with serveral examples with explanations. You're basically saying "because I said so" as to why you hold your view.

The idea of an internet forum becomes a bit pointless if people come on and say "in my opinion grass is blue", its difficult to say someones opinion is wrong.

As a film maker I'm suspicious of the film too. Did he leave the garage and go to the car park opposite while the camera bod caught up on foot? I had a 993 (C4) which IMHO was the last stunning 911 made, but was underpowered and like driving around in a tumble dryer. You arrived at your destination deaf with all your fillings in your lap. My current jalopy is a 996 Turbo, and shape of the headlights aside, I can't think of a single reason to change it. Feels very GT to me. The new one looks passable but does sound ropey - 911's have never sounded great. The bit on the roof is obviously a solar panel. Simples.

I guess it's a testbed for integrated antennas (like radio, mobile phone, navigation, Wi-Fi, satellite radio, DVB-T etc). Or a new cool body coloured solar panel for cooling the car and to reduce CO2 emissions.

Please tell the DrGumoLunatic that YouTube Video Editor features a powerful Stabilizer Tool.

I think this is Porsche playing games and the new car won't look like this at the rear, or possibly the front.
They are not. I've spent some time behind one at the traffic lights today and it looked pretty finished in terms of design.
When the first spy shots of the Panamera appeared on the internet I too hoped it was a joke...

Oh I think they are. Take a look at the rear PU in the opening frames, the way it interacts with the rear lamps and the number plate cut-out. That's not how it's going to look.

But your examples are all "it's more similar to this than this", which is entirely personal opinion and, to my mind, beside the point.

This is getting a bit silly anyway, you continue to believe what you want to, and I'll continue to believe what I do. If I'm looking for a car to do long trips with the occasional bit of fun driving, I'll be considering a 911; if I want a car primary for hammering B-roads, I can't imagine why I'd look past the Boxster/Cayman in the Porsche stable, because they're better at it than the bottom end 911s are.

Just in case I see one, could anyone let me know how to identify it from a dozen other 911 variants. I'd just like to know.

You are ALL right, of course. That's the point. The 911 is slightly flawed on every level. But then how many cars manage to be a comfy GT when you have distances to cover, fun to chuck through the twisties when you find them, have enough space for 3 good-sized suitcases when you fold the seats, can carry 4 at a pinch for a few minutes when you're picking folks up at the station, be sufficiently reliable to be sure of getting you there, etc. etc.

The reason the 911 lives on is because it is a packaging wonder and the best all-round compromise on the road. And has been for such a long time that eveyrone recognises it as an icon.

Yes but a VX220 is better down a B-road than an S2000, that doesn't make the S2000 a GT car!

Perhaps we should just agree that the 911 is a hard car to class, it's a sports car, GT car or supercar depending on which one you buy and how you view it. It's a 911 smile

Yes, I think that's a fair comment. The fact that they produce so many different versions with such different setups makes it a slightly confusing thing to quantify and the fact that they've done it with a car which, in its basic form, has such a broad (yet slightly shallow) range of abilities makes it even more so.

Just to throw my two pennies worth in, I would say that the entry-level models and Turbo are more "GT like" cars, while the GT badged cars are more "supercar like" cars. Is that clear? Either way, I wouldn't say no to any 911, past or present (although I wouldn't buy a 911 with a tiptronic gearbox).

The weird look around the rear lights is due to some red semi transparent stickers over lights and rear bumper to make the rather slim 991 rear lights appear 997ish. It's the last stage of carmouflage if you wish.
