bloody wheeler dealers !
Discussion
I very nearly bought a p38 rangerover 2.5 diesel. ANd It's all the tv show wheeler dealers fault. for years now I have watched Mr brewer and ed China buy the cars I want but I'm too scared of the pitfalls and cost to repair when they go wrong. But these to make it look so simple to buy and repair them. And it never seems to costly. How many unfortunate chumps like myself have been, or nearly taken in by these two. "I bought this for 2k and ed has only spent 1k and it only took 3 days to fix. Oh and It's worth 5k now".

They always make a profit and seem to have a laugh doing so - so why not?
You DO have a fully equipped workshop and a tame 7 foot tall spanner monkey with multicoloured hair who works for free don't you? Always helps if the monkey also has a mate who helps out on the big jobs.. for free.

they have had some very close shaves during the various series and I seem to recall that a few times they have actually made a loss and then glossed that by stating that the secondary aim is 'to keep a classic car on the road for a few more years!'..the most imprtant point to note is that they pay NO LABOUR costs and have a lot of contacts in the industry to get cheap parts!..it would be even more hit and miss for the man in the street
The TV show makes me cringe.
Brewer goes for a thrash in someones pride and joy, then proceeds with his aggressive nature of bargaining whilst sitting on the bonnet or wing of someone else's car!
IIRC in the Elan episode, he's thrashing it round the lanes, then says there is a problem with the rear suspension! Yes and you're thrashing round corners you .
Also, in the 205 GTi episode, he's just been for a drive in the car and pulls up back where the bloke lives, turns the engine off and puts the handbrake on before he's even stopped the car.
The only useful and interesting part is when Ed has it in the garage. The show really does make it look like anyone can buy a car and make it a tidy profit.

No I did not know that. How do you know that
The subject has been covered on here quite comprehensively in previous threads. It would seem a fair few of the cars actually end up on ebay. Apparently Ed is not the person that does the majority of the work, it's the person that often gives Ed 'a hand' on camera. Can't recall his name, might be John. Either way, I still like watching it, because I'm quite fond of modern classics, although Brewer does grate on me in a 'old out yer 'and fella kind of way!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
