If you have the V5C paperwork for a car with one identity, you can make a different example of an identical model into that car - to hide a write-off on the history, to cover it being stolen, to make a modified standard version seem like the far more valuable performance version it seems to be, to make a young car into a tax and MOT exempt older version, to skip a kit car past doing an approval test it could never pass, and so on.

To do it convincingly, you also need the bits that are stamped with identifying numbers, e.g. the VIN plate.

Not at all. Welcome along.

A ringing kit is any vehicle identity that is for sale. That includes V5C, V5 or older log book, number plates, VIN plates or some cases complete history files and other documents.

Whether sold with criminal intent or not.

Primarily our concern is these kits are used to change the identity of a stolen vehicle but could just as easily be used to hide insurance status, reduce mileage, make a vehicle tax or MOT exempt or elevate the value of a vehicle that once sold would be fraud.

not so much a kit but a car

replica xr2 here (red one of the lot of two)

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

genuine xr2 matching numbers here.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

2 different sellers. 1st seller was honest.

This is what kits achieve.

Not sure if you've already done it, but can you also let Clayton who runs the Mk1 FRSOC know, as I don't have FB and he'll be very interested in getting that removed / tracked, etc, and prevent another Mk1 being cloned or a fake one being created which has happened at least once before banghead

https://en-gb.facebook.com/mk1focusrsoc/

The sad thing about the username / location of that eBay account, I think that could even belong to a former RSOC user / member, so they'll know exactly what they're doing in selling that banghead

It's always worse if you click "See Other Items" and find they are a commercial breaker.

If they're willing to sell a Ringing Kit and thus aid and abet the theft of a motor vehicle how legit does it make the parts donors look?

Yes. eBay are as much accessories as the sellers.

Thank you to everyone who haven't posted or forwarded to the thread but have been finding and reporting illegal listings covertly. wink

Thank you to the Police Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service...

https://navcis.police.uk/

...who haven't blocked my emails (yet) and acting on information I and we have passed on to them.

Thank you to eBay admin's for removing some of the listings, shame they haven't removed them all but it's not like their site is providing an outlet for criminal activity making them accessories to whatever crimes the Ringing Kits are used for at all eh?

Thank you to the Pistonheads Forum admin' team for allowing this thread to continue despite the number of site members (criminals) who have complained about it.

Oh just one more thing if you are reading this...

Merry Christmas

Old post resurrection, but this plate has had two MOT's since this was originally posted so its back on the road in some form or another.

Posting reg numbers in the threads might be rather useful, this vehicle is quite probably nicked & re plated using this ID
