I have had my 640d for 6 months now and pleased to say that I am within the lease mileage, at just over 1700 now. She is a lovely car in every respect but I would say you would have to be certifiable to pay £67000 for one! It certainly turns heads though. Being a tight fisted git, mine spends most of its time in "eco pro" mode and has about 43mpg indicated on the OBC.
so you've done 1700 miles in 6 months, and you bought the diesel? just out of curiosity....why?mercGLowner said:

shame they aren't bring the "50d" engine here to the UK in cars we might want...over 380bhp from a 3.0 diesel. sub 5 to 62mph in the 5 series over in Germany and very similar economy to the 40d engine...
Someone at work told me it's due to packaging problems - the 3 turbos get in the way of the RHD steering column and driver controls apparently..chrisx666 said:

2014 I think.the have secretly bought some awd 3 series models so I think it is more to do with competing with other models.
I recently bought a 12 plated 640d M Sport for £46K (it was £71.5K new just 6 months ago).
Having owned so many cars (M3's, 911, Boxster S, Cayman S, Audi A8 and a few more I feel well qualified to comment on this car).
For me I have to say the 640d coupe is just about the best car in the 'real world' (offering a blend of stomping performance, exclusivity and economy that is without rival in the market (or at least I haven't found a rival yet :-)
When I say 'real world' I mean a car that you want to climb into on a Friday night, when it's dark and raining and you're knackered. That's certainly when driving sports cars used to do my head in ... literally!
It seems to sit nicely between the likes of a Porsche at one end and your typical luxury marks at the other end, and while you definitely can't call it a sports car, it's a lot more fun that your usual luxury-barge!
It certainly is a treat to drive and attracts plenty of interest from passers by and other motorists, and it's a special place to sit with a cabin that is right up there in terms of quality.
The fuel economy isn't up to the claimed levels of BMW but I get 36/37 mpg on short journeys and it'll comfortably return 42/43 mpg on a run. It's a big car make no mistake and while this can be a nuisance when parking it more than makes up for it with it's sheer presence and stability on the road.
A great car, hard to fault, I'd heartily recommend.

They were overpriced to start with. Think they will find their level.
Just coming up to 9,000 miles in mine.
Could have cried yesterday when I curbed an alloy on the frankly ludicrously narrow marlow bridge in Bucks.
Mine is on a smidge under 40mpg since I got it with no effort, which for the performance and size of the car is frankly ridiculous.

I'm only up to 3300 miles in my 640d M Sport since I acquired it 7.5 months ago on the BMW lease. I have spent a little more time away from home than I envisaged this year with no need for the car. It's going to work out quite expensive per mile at this rate! Beautiful car though and effortless to drive and a lovely place to sit. My MPG is sitting around the 44 mark.
