Would it be out of order to enquire how much this little beauty owes you now?

So the blue car is 'chav' with its 15" wheels(?) coilovers (?) and splitter then what does that make a golf GTI rolling on 20's (I assume 20" alloys are an option) with its chrome exhuast tips and X-amount of speakers?

It might well be my OCD kicking in but those number plates could do with being replaced to fully enhance the front.
Another plate to go on when I get the other nose cone back from being painted (they matched the colour while I was there with the car). It's another stick-on job - let's hope I get it on straight this time. Ahem...

Um... Let's just say it's still a bargain and I'm still in credit from the Clio 172 Cup I sold beforehand. There is a slight disparity between the aforementioned bloke logic of "It only cost £1,200..." and the actual expenditure but you'll forgive me for discretion on the actual numbers. Let's just say there are sensitivities here.

I recently heard of someone paying c. £5K for a super low mileage UK Mk1 and though it sounded fierce initially you can kind of see the logic given that bringing a car like this up to standard probably costs not a million miles off that. Depends on what you want though - super low miles original 'museum piece' or a lightly tweaked car adjusted to one's own particular tastes. Each to their own and all.

My Delta has a dent 20cm in width and probably just needs to be pushed out... is it do-able?
In answer to this ... best go and see them. Officially the answer would be that dings on vertical panels are easier than those on horizontal ones and Adrian the dent guy said, roughly, something the size of a grapefruit was about the biggest they could deal with. But the ding on the roof of that S-Max I mentioned was much bigger and on a horizontal panel and they dealt with that.

He did mention a roof dent on a Fiesta he was called out to deal with and before he got there the guy at the garage "had a go to get it started" but wrecked it and it was a write-off. Erk!

Got my self a cheap white 1.6 mk1 and have to say most fun motoring ever, I keep getting cheekier and cheekier looking for damp and mud to push the tail out but grip is so good now Im revering to the handbrake lol!

Im a total convert to something I have to admit to previously passing off as a girls motor

Might I recommend the mighty Tigars if you're suffering from too much grip. Their total lack of adhesion is at least consistent and dependable!

Damn this image:

I'm trying to shake the idea of getting an MX-5 for a while and stuff like this doesn't help smile driving at dusk/or even clear nights with the roof off was one of my favourite things about my Elise.

You sum up well everything I love about my MX5, roof down blast round country roads on an uprated suspension with pops and bangs from the exhaust. Epic fun.

Definitely not an over-rated car, but then I am biased. ;-)

I don't understand, yours is turbo'd isn't it? That's what I remember you saying from another thread, along with a photo. You also said they were good, up there as No.5 in Evo's top 100 cars and that they were better than the MR2 roadster.

But now they're st? I'm confused.

+1 I didn't believe the hype, but after years and years of seeing people go on about them on here I took the plunge, and haven't looked back since.

Gotta be a mk1 though, original and best thumbup

+1 ...I'm going to have to drag mine out of the garage and treat it to a wash and polish at the weekend (and then go for a blast!) I think the people who say they're overrated have only gone for a quick spin around town, the rattly, slow, uncomfortable little '5 is transformed the second you hit an empty B road.try it!

Do MX-5ers recommend going for one with or without an LSD?

I bought a '97 1.8 "Harvard" in July. Nice clean UK car with FSH, cost me £1800 with 70k on the clock. Bargain, I thought.

Since then I hardly dare add up what I have spent.

Full service, cam belt and water pump, clutch fluid change, synthetic gearbox and diff oil, various oil seals and had it undersealed. £700 to Dandycars.

Then I had a backwards into a hedge moment. Got away with that one but invested in four new Avons and 4 wheel alignment. £450 to Elite in Dagenham.

Then MX5 Parts and Autolink became my friends. I've fitted refurbished rear calipers, new handbrake cables, 4 new disks, EBC Greenstuff pads, new brake fluid and changed all the water hoses (including the inaccessible one under the inlet manifold) for silicone replacements after one sprouted a pinhole leak. Plus an MX5 parts electric window kit and an Alpine head unit and four Focal speakers. Probably another £1250 in bits, I must add up all the receipts.

So, I reckon I am just over four grand in so far. Love it though. Went to see Phil from Performance 5s at his house the other Saturday for a suspension consultation. Currently waiting for a quote...

Or think a good car is a VW TDS DSG on 20" rims.

I had a couple of MX-5s and have ridden in one since; your -5 description is perfect!

With. Providing it hasn't worn (viscous type) and reverted to open.

I also bought a 97 Harvard last month! Spent a fair bit too, not that it needed it. Full service with CBS autos in Nelson (top guy who knows his mx's). 4 new Toyo T1Rs. Meister adjustable shocks all round. New speakers for the doors. Indiglo dials (not fitted yet). Still got plenty of change from selling my previous car a perfectly good all rounder Mini Cooper S. Just saw it (the mx) and felt 'the urge'! Loving it. Best 'downgrade' ever.

Thanks V8Will.

I was behind a MX-5 on Friday. I am not sure how the 'Sniff my Diff' sticker on the rear bumper, the LSD sticker in the rear window sat with the dashboard mounted front numberplate. The twin pipes (one either side) looked good, but audibly very few four pots sound very interesting. Perhaps it gave off a nice yowl when given the beans but I just heard another four pot farty noise.
