To my knowledge the biggest electrical problem with recent PSA group products is a failure of the CANBUS wiring system; and when it does fail it is a nightmare to put right.
So what you are saying is you have had personnel experience of these failures. I am just really surprised as I have been a member on 3 different french car websites and never come across this as a major issue.

Where as I've had a 306,406,307 with over 80 k between them, but because I had no electrical faults these must be anomalies.

It is fair to make negative statements about cars, but in my view you should have actually driven/owned one.

As I mentioned before, my mate's 406 Coupe was very reliable and a pleasure to drive so I have nothing against Peurgeots but my GF's 307 is an awful car. It is poorly built, the trim is cheap and mechanically feels a very weak car (especially the clutch). This is before I start on the electrics with the constantly blowing bulbs, electric window faults and other random but annoying glitches.
My work colleague's 307 is just as bad.
Yet my sister's 306 D Turbo was an excellent car.

Unfortunately Peugeot's seem to be more "luck of the draw" than a lot of other makes.

I think these were pushing £30k when new, big old french barge for the money but not for me, to big and clumsy, I preferred the celica shape which was classed as a hatchback but better looking.

What tosh! That's like saying that I should take no notice of people who tell me that swimming with sharks covered in fish entrails is dangerous - I should try it for myself. I do read the motoring press and take notice of the woes of other Peugeot owners in my ken (e.g my neighbour's once new 307 that only had 2,000 miles on it after 9 months. Why? because it was in the garage more than it was on her driveway; I also refer you to Rammy's response just below your post). So I won't be buying one anytime soon.

Re the French car websites. Clearly you have been looking at the likes of iwearrosetintedpeugeotspecs.com: have you tried http://www.peugeotforums.com ? There's plenty on there.

Ohh, I nearly forgot. The 307 convertible I rented in Italy 4 years back. 5,000 Km on the clock and the power roof failed in the down position.

The difference between ignoring advice based on common sense and accepting a bit of anecdotal experience and extrapolating it to apply to the ENTIRE UNIVERSE is the difference between an idiot and a complete moron.

The SOTW 406 is 10+ years old - similar cars have covered well over 100,000 miles - if they even remotely matched your idea of a Peugeot, they'd never have made it this far surely?

"All Peugeots are st and break down so much they barely do 2K miles a year"
"Well this one has done more"
"AAaaaarrrrhhh get OUT OF MY HEADDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Like I say the rule does not apply to all. No doubt some will make it that far. Although the small numbers of surviving cars vis a vis Audis, Mercs etc. probably says it all.

And it's not just anecdotal evidence. I do read the motoring press too you know.

Then of course there's always this:

http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/jd-power-survey-20...

or this that rated the Pug 406 at 109th.

I've not read the definitive researchrolleyes

But I have to say I've never been convinced by this one. There's just something slightly dodgy about it that I can't quite put my finger on.

And so... judge as a result I tend to put it in the category of "hairdresser's car", along with its compatriots the TR7, Maserati Biturbo, Opel Calibra, Porsche 924, Jeep Wrangler, BMW 318i...
