3.5 V6 from the Toyota Camry, reworked ECU, bringing it up to 350-ish bhp.
The Supercharged version of the engine was actually lifted from the Australian market TRD Aurion.

That Lotus site is useless - tells you Sod all about the Engine they are proposing to quiz in there.

Can't help but think it would be a worse car over a blown (Turbo or SC) 4 pot Exige, bigger heavier (the opposite of the whole point of an Exige!).

This size of engine in the Elise / Exige will make it pants.

This the same asmatic lump in the base Evora thing without a blower). Sounds like a gap filler till they get some of there pie in the sky cars out (there website with proposed 4 or 5 new Car doe make you laugh!

not remotely asthmatic in my experience.

it's a very smooth, torque-rich, durable, well-engineered, torture-tested japanese V6.

and if you think the new Exige isn't going to be any good you're in for a serious shock.

Watched US Top Gear with a test of this car recently (in NA) form - yep they liked it but basically said it had bugger all GO, some thing like 1300 kg and 280bhp. That is just Crap.

Might be a bit better in a lighter Elise / Exige. But if I was in the market for something like this I'd just take my new 4pot exige straight to one of the Blower companies and have it "sorted". Same light weight with loads more torque and power.

The new Exige has 345bhp and weighs 1,100kgs. Having seen it depart the dealer in Leeds, I can confirm it is very, very quick. Certainly quicker than the RGB Exige which departed in a similarly committed fashion soon after.

As an S1 Exige owner, I can share certain reservations about this car. It won't drive like an S1, but then it's not supposed to - this is a different kind of Exige. It will be lithe, supple and very fast. I can't see much to complain about. It'll absolutely run rings around my car on the track.

Think we are on the same page. These things (to my mind should be light AND have a high power to weight. NOT be heavy AND have a high power to weight. 1100kg for an Elise / Exige is bloody CRAP. My old LSV8 TVR only weigh 30kg more than that! And you would never consider that to be in a comparable all up wight to a Lotus (small ones).

It's a development car, so it'll be more than run in smile

Few more shots and video from the JCT600 evening here: http://www.seloc.org/2011/11/exige-s-v6-pictures-a...

It's just a development hack - far from finished and definitely not new. It's been thrashed around the Nurburgring and the front's full of holes from where they've been using telemetry equipment. It was well warmed up and driven up from Hethel that evening - it was departing back for Norfolk at that moment.

It's always going to be hard to keep the weight down when things like the S1 Elise and Exige were SO parred back though.

The current Elise is still sub-900kg, so I guess for the people who want something truly light weight that's the one to go for still. The new supercharged Elise S looks like it'll be a strong torquey engine and I think it's good to have some real differences between the Elise and Exige - means they're competing in slightly different markets rather than simply with each other.

All current Lotuses meet modern safety standards and can be sold worldwide. Comparison of their weight with cars which can't achieve this are meaningless.

Can the Elise and Exige still be sold in the US? I was under the impression that some exemptions (possibly related to bumpers?) they had had expired.
