I love these things, have done since I was small! Would love to visit the specialist for a giggle!

It's worth noting that the Brabus Unimog apparently does NOT have any extra power- just goes on a diet, losing all the useful stuff, and then replaces it with pointless chintz crap- I mean, really, wheel trims on a Unimog? Shiny diamond plate in the cargo bay? Just no. Tonka toy yellow and all the toys, please.

It's also a shame that Mercedes decided to launch their stupid M-Class in The Lost World. If they'd sent these in, the dinosaurs wouldn't have stood a chance.

Err... they did have 2-3 'mogs in there; http://www.benzworld.org/forums/unimog/1442977-mog...

They "might" have had a chance pulling that camper up the clift with a Mog..but 7t odd on a clift verus anything on slick mud.. about a Cat D9 was the only thing that would have worked! (It's only a movie... yeah but we are still under 1G conditions!)

The RAF Harrier squadrons used to use Unimogs for towing aircraft. The Unimog was needed as opposed to a standard aircraft towing tractor for deployments into the field. I had many a happy time doing a bit of impromtu 'bondu bashing' in one, remembering first of course to unhitch the Harrier.

Ah but the 'Mog would've withstood the T-Rexes so much better! And apparently the M-Class was 'nearly' pulling the hench truck back up (believe it when I see it... ). So in movie terms, by the time the 'Rexes had arrived back to deal with Eddie Carr, they'd've been long gone and ready to go.

The stuff I've read about them before suggests that actually they don't offer much over some decently chunky big dirt tyres - though obviously going to have more issues fitting those to a drift car .

There's quite a few youtube vids showing vehicles with Matttracks going places where normal cars can't. One in particular where a Hummer is tried with and without Matttracks in deep snow. It's quite convincing.

Please forgive the off-topic.
I recollect seeing a program about Paris-Dakar support vehicles.(I'm guessing about 10 years ago). I seem to recollect a truck that had a cabin at both ends. That is, if it got stuck going one way the driver could get out of the "front", go to the "back" and drive forward. Can someone tell me the brand/model this could have been?

Sort of back on topic.I have always thought a Pinzgauer 6x6 looks superior to a Unimog because of the extra axle. I am not talking about real world capability; just "just won the lottery" buying fantasy.

Yep one of the main straights of the unimog is the portal axles




Which gives a lot more ground clearance

I am loving all the pics of 'Mogs, but it's not easy for the uninitiated to appreciate the size of these machines.
My kids (5 and 3) LOVE Land Rovers (especially Defenders), so when they saw one parked next to a Mog a few weeks back, they were just speechless:
