A Volvo estate is one of the few estate cars that can pull off the old money trick....
Depends, the V50 has a whiff of repmobile to it and the current R-Design models look a little too new-money, the older and more plain the exterior, the better I reckon. I'd say that old, poverty-spec Mercedes E-Class' and Subaru Legacys/Outbacks are the only others that can do the same.I'm liking the 2.7t Audi. Lot of posh car for £2k there.
Imola E39 anyone....?

Dunno why the numberplate lives on the dash though.

I've just got back from a holiday to Cornwall in my E39 540 Touring. I can't remember who said it, but the thing about the 540 is that 'it's never the wrong car'. Whether it be cruising effortlessly on the motorway, tackling an endless succession of bends on country back roads, bellowing past a dawdler on a wider single carriageway, or nosing quietly into the car park of a posh hotel...it just always felt like the right car for the job. I even managed a respectable 27mpg for the whole trip.
That nicely sums up whats so great about the E39.I'd imagine the day will one day arrive where you can no longer nose quietly into the carpark of a posh hotel in an E39 without people wondernig if you've made a wrong turn. I don't think we are quite there yet - plenty of original-owners still have them - but the E34 hasn't got it anymore so the E39's day will sadly arrive at some point.
People still think mine is a 'flash car'. This cannot last.
- not including the M5, though that still wouldn't make my top 20 picks.

Lovely 530i Aegean on eBay at the moment.
Is this the one with new engine AND gearbox AND vanis unit ? whilst no bad thing you have to ask why (I knw gearbox failures are not that uncommon at 120k pus, but it does beg the question)Edited by Mustard on Sunday 1st April 11:08

Sad day
Have finally found a suitable xc90 for the misses today so the e39 528 touring is to be off in p/x - looks like I'll be leaving the world of barge for a while. Was offered £1000 for it (99/T with 66k ans a few dinks and scratches) - did consider flea bay but can't be bothered with the wasters - just wish I hadn't spent out on new pads all round on Friday!
Will be keeping an eye on this thread though - once a barger, always a barger!
Or you could always try mentioning it somewhere it would reach it's target audience?Have finally found a suitable xc90 for the misses today so the e39 528 touring is to be off in p/x - looks like I'll be leaving the world of barge for a while.
