I do like the idea of an E55 AMG Wagon - not sure on the interior on that one though. Still a nice find.

There was a brief deviation to Swedish barges by some but thankfully we are now back on to BMW's.

I bought an Alpina B3 3.3 Saloon (Switch-Tronic) today. Not really a barge more of a mini 'sporting' barge. Might be a bit more fuel efficient than the V12 smile
Indeed there was a minor distraction but most of us realised the error and moved back to Bavaria. How is the Pina? Really fancy one some day - waiting for facelift B10 3.3 Manuals to come down to about £4k.

Yes I know this is over budget but I'm 99.9% sure that its the one posted and discussed about a week ago. Trader who had it up told me he sold it to a trader for £4500. Does look great although makes me dubious about the M3 trade in quote. Why put it? I'm all for making money selling cars including private individuals but nothing annoys me more than the half way trader. Either you're pukka or not.
Mine is pre-facelift (2000) and Switch-Tronic so perhaps the less desirable model. First impressions are its a lovely engine, really bassy tone to the engine/exhaust. Feels more potent than my old 330i Sport. I've not really given it an extended drive yet and dont want to until I get a few other bits sorted. Has the anthracite/black leather with dark red wood which I really like and its in Individual Alpina Blue. It's a bit dull at the moment but a few hours elbow grease should see her shining again.

I hired a DTS last year. Looked a bit similar but had more doors.

Dire.

So dire I took it back a few days later and took an Infiniti G37 instead.

It definitely is http://www.bourneandthomas.co.uk/GetDealer.do?did=...

Strange! Bourne and Thomas are or certainly were in Village near Reading which is a fair way from Brighton!

I bought my Élan years ago from the and he was a decent guy

As well as the price hike, it's lost 6k mies and gained MBFSH instead or part main dealer / part specialist

I suspect it's bourne and Thomas's car as I know he gets stuff out of Dick lovett group which would make the claim it was a p/x against a new M3

Also if you compare the rest of the cars at b & t the photos match the c32's! The only other car Sussex Prestidge are selling has a totally different back drop

I'm not sure I made an error. Find me the 55 plate BMW 5 series with 250bhp for £2.5k. Less than 90k miles and fsh too. It's not better than the e39 but is by no means crap and the value can't be ignored.

You could use that argument to justify a Kia Magentis.

Apols Phil, that comment was more than a bit tongue in cheek!

The Saab was/is a very capable machine. In hindsight, having a 'new' registration, FSH etc is nice but I'm far happier with my 330i despite it having more miles and being 4 years older. The Saab can munch miles well but was never really fun and the Beemer interior is miles ahead.

However a 9-5 Aero is a good car and remains fantastic vfm for what you get.

ETA Alex. That is a new level of value. Well done chap, hope it turns out to be as good as it looks.

The next barge is bought, and it is delightfully barge like!

A cheeky bid on the Bay of Fleas has landed me with a 2004 V70 D5.

Manual box, 7 seats, its the facelift model with the nicer front/rear end and the updated interior - that also means its the better 180bhp engine. FSH, descirbed as mechanically good.

Really chuffed with the looks of it - looks to be a PX from a dealer. It looks like the interior needs a bit of work, im guessing its been used as a daily family wagon by the previous owner.

IF it all checks out I think 2350 is a bloody steal. Heres hoping smile

Good work.

I had an MY03 S60 D5 from 2005-2008 and it was probably the best all round car I have owned.

If I stray from the fold I feel it may be for a V70 in some flavour

D5's do seem to have a good rep for reliability and economy combined with a gutsy engine

That is very, very cheap even with a grubby interior. They'd have got more sticking it through a car auction. It's not the 185bhp model though - that didn't come until late 2005. That's probably a good thing as the 185 is noisier, not a lot faster and goes wrong more.

Why do I find cars like that so much more appealing than newer stuff? It's really annoying. When I first started getting interest in these cars they were all shiney and new and I was able to tell everyone that new cars are best and old cars sucked.

Why do I find an E46 B3 3.3S more interesting than an E90? Why would I rather have a look around an E38 Sport than an E65?

because way back when each new incarnation of a model brought with it new technology which made life easier, with better refinement and so on. i feel around the E46/E39/E38 era these cars had most of the "toys" which you actually need where most newer things are just, generally, gimicks (e.g. night vision, lane change assist etc). so, the newer cars may be a little more refined and have more toys but it's not as if the older cars are much worse unlike how it used to be, and the older ones are just better looking.

IMO, the E46 facelift is one of the nicest, well-rounded shape they've done for a very long time. and well, need we say anything about the E39? the E38 is also a handsome car, if a bit understated.
