Oh nobody cares about diesel A5's. I can't think of anything more dull.

So it looks like a dready Hyundai Coupe (??) and has the performance figures of a Golf GTi circa 1990. I don't understand, if it is taking on the MX5 doesn't it need more OOOMPH and looks?

No, IMO. Couldn't care less about looks or straight line speed (past a certain point, and this isn't offensively bad in either category).

A lot of people buy washing powder, but it doesn't mean they care about it.

think there is a nice switch now going from ultimate 0-60 times etc to driving pleasure. All the better for it, feel so much more alive driving an original mini or mx-5 down a twisty wet road, making you slightly scared but when a corner is nailed so much more happy. Hot hatches (A5 diesel aswell if you want) may be quicker and get you there quicker but i miss enjoying slow speeds. 70 in my car feels like ya crawling, 70 in an old mini is something on par with the millenium falcon.

I think really good cars necessarily divide opinion. If the German diesel contingent don't get this car, that's probably an excellent sign.

Yes, not a good comparison. I would've used fridges, myself.

People must care about those as well or they would buy a 220 quid beko and not a £1000 Bosch! To say someone who buys an Audi A5d doesnt care about their purchase is just idiotic!

Needs more power, fun is soon lost when you get blown away by a chav in his CTR.

Yada needs to get in the real world.

If you're worried about that kind of thing, I think you're not the target market.

Not that they dont care about their purchase but they dont really care about driving it.

Care about sitting in it getting envious looks by Mondeoman maybe, care about the end of the month when the tax bill is far lower than the guy with the Citroen C6 maybe, care about having one when putting a bike in the back when the guy with the Alfa 159 has to put it on the roof too.

As this car has come from a concept that doesnt rely on outright figures it seems a bit off to compare it straight with figures.

Does the A5 also beat a 2.0NA TT aswell?

If your main criteria for the quality of a car is a traffic light grand prix with a diesel A5 then this may not be the car for you. For everyone else who enjoys the fun of driving the car through the twisties then enjoy!

This could have a great 1 make race series, especially if the turbo version appears.

I should imagine there are plenty of Jap tuning houses already with turbos to bolt on.

When this thing fly's out of the showrooms, I feel we could well see it becoming a Modified car very soon, ie, the desire for more power/performance/handling will ignite all the aftermarket manufacturers/suppliers to adorn this car with a lot more toys, akin to the massive aftermarket that Subaru created when the Impreza was the 'in-thing'

ps, Greddy has already Turbocharged the Scion variant, despite Toyota saying the engine isn't 'designed' for it!....Bring it on!

I don't really get all the slow comments to be honest; 0-60 in 7 seconds and 140 odd mph is hardly crawling pace! I'm guessing the power to weight ratio/pace is similar to that of Renaultspot Clio or a new Golf GTI. Granted it might not have the torque of a turbocharged motor like the golf et all but if you keep the engine on the boil it should be fine!

I know others have compared the performance of an A5 and the GT86 which is a bit daft really. I was just saying that people do care when they choose a car like an A5. The above description of the A5 actually makes it sound like quite a decent car though hehe

I'm looking forward to test driving either the Toyota or Subaru. Can't help thinking 250bhp would be better, but then (through the use of man maths) 300bhp would be better then that and so on ....

still, looking forward to it.
