There was a small garage near Wigan that had an RS200 in the showroom. I used to go out of my way on a regular basis to go an oogle it through the window. I was a teenager at the time and to me it was pure automotive pornography. The mists of time maybe cloudy but I'm sure the price on the window was close to £100K which in the mid/late 80's was an extraordinary amount of money for a car.
P
Ron Hodgson? It was up a year or two ago at £125k.P
After they were banned from Rallying I remember seeing RS200 and 6R4s advertised in the classifieds at the back of Motoring News (was that its name ? It was a weekly Motorsport paper) from £5k.
I nearly bought one but I was a student and couldn't justify / afford to run one as a road car.
Oh how I kicked myself when Rallycross started and the prices lept skywards.

I have to say, Chris's videos are the only decent thing about that Drive channel. All the other videos are just 15 minutes of 2 blokes sat at a table talking about the topic which they mislead us with in the title.
my thoughts exactly...the only good part about Drive is the british one! hahanext time this:
VS this:
much enjoyed that too.
and have held a particular fascination for group B cars since short trousers as well.
Let's hope rallying would return to something as inspiring soon.
Has a racing formula ever produced such an interesting collection of cars? (group B also produced the 959 and 288 GTO lest we forget)
it would be a complete thrill to drive any of them. Delta S4 with supercharger and turbo charger. I don't remember any review of that. Hopefully Jim will fix it for Chris to drive it along with the 205 car soon.
For some reason I'm much more interested in driving (and watching videos about) the road going versions of the Group B cars, I wouldn't say no to a go in the full-on rally cars but spent my childhood dreaming about the road versions, I guess because they were something I could fantasize about owning.

I worked for ford back in the day and we had one of the full rally specced 200's on display for a short time. I was taken out in it for a short drive by one of the motorsport managers... it is a memory that has stayed with me to this day as it was putting out circa 650bhp at a time when high performance "supercars" were struggling to make 350bhp. To say that it was outrageous was an understatement. As a fresh faced 19yr old it was an orgasmic moment.
Another decent video, very well shot and more importantly edited. Credit to the videoographer.
Now I've been really nice will someone tell me what camera that was shooting? Looked like a Cannon 600D with a 10-20 or something attached. More importantly, what's used for the audio, as that was decent!

I cant imagine RS200s have ever been close to 5k, surely? Even in the late 80s that would seem a bit unlikely.I nearly bought one but I was a student and couldn't justify / afford to run one as a road car.

5K?? that would not even buy the wheels on an RS200...

I knew Chris was a good driver and a great journo. However, I didn't realise was a talented filmmaker he was. Awesome level of production on these videos Chris... Can I book you for my wedding?
Yes yes, I realise the wedding video would contain 50 minutes on the way the Jag drives that my beloved is arriving in, and only a quick 30 seconds on the vows and wot not... but that's what i'd like please.

Great Video - keep em coming.
2 great cars, my personal best is the RS200 just because it is and was just out there - wild!
A good friend has recently purchased a kit/replica version 2wd cossie powered not been in it yet but look forward to the experience.
From memory I think the road going version were £50k but were sold at less I remeber seeing one for sale at £35k but now the prices are £100k+ for an original. Dees of croydon had one in the window for many years, I think it was there to pull in a crowd rather than to be sold.
Cheers Chris
