I agree with the previous guy. Why buy one of these when a 3 year old 330d Coupe will murder it on performance, sound nicer, probably equal it for real world MPG and cost about a third of the money??
Close wink An Alpina D3 or a 123d. The 330d won't quite match the Mercedes for fuel consumption.

It looks even more expensive when you realise you can have the equivalent E-Class coupe for less than the C-Class coupe. . . . . . . confused
According to What Car? specced up with options (that are differing prices to make for realistic comparison) we have so far
C250 at £38,660 and E250 at £41,920

Try looking at the price of a new 123d and you may get my point yes

I'm still glad I went for my 320d M Sport Coupe to be honest, I think it is a better looking car and represents better value for money. I'm sure with a mild tweak (to just over 200 BHP) it would probably be as quick as this Merc anyway! Don't get me wrong it is a nice looking car but seems really big and bulky from the sides and I suspect it is a lot heavier (although I could be wrong on this front).

I've had a test drive in the new B Class Sport 200 CDI BlueEfficiency today (looking to replace mum's Lexus). I don't drive autos at all normally. The last one was an old Cherokee which was, as expected, dire. The 7-speed D-S-Whateverthehellit'scalled gearbox in this was a revelation. Don't get me wrong, the car wasn't what you'd call dynamic, but it was a lovely place to be, handled admirably for a tall vehicle and the gearbox coupled with the engine was sublime. It had constant torque wherever it was. You just put your foot down and it went and went and went with no jerkiness whatsoever. If it wasn't for the step change in revs you'd swear it was a CVT or something.

It's not going to pull your face off with acceleration, but it really got me thinking about my daily drive and how much easier it would be. I love getting involved with driving. I love how involving my ClubSport is for weekend fun, but I have a manual diesel for my commute and TBH it's a pain in the arse rather than exciting.

Have I just hit middle age at 30? cry I'm off to browse for Jags.

yes The MB website car configurator concurs, I can only assume the test car PH had (with it's odd smaller 17" wheels which aren't offered anymore), had EVERY option ticked!

I've just specced up a lower powered 170bhp 320d coupe M-Sport on the BMW website and its a good couple of thousand £ dearer than the equivalent C250cdi coupe for a similar spec.

My nephew ordered a C220cdi AMG 125 Sport edition this week as his company car over a 3 series coupe for precisely the reason that BMW still charge for things that Merc include in the top trim line as standard - electric folding auto dimming mirrors, front PDC, adaptive headlights, extended storage, 12V power sockets, front armrest, seat lumbar support, rain sensing wipers...seriously, I wouldn't pay £38k for the Merc but in terms of value for equivalently specced cars it knocks the BMW out of the park.

You can buy a new 330d coupe for the price of the C250 Coupe. No need to compare to a three year old one.

I have a C250 estate with 7G tronic. I get about 50mpg and I don't reckon the latest 330d would be far off that, particularly a manual. The 330d coupe probably has slightly better spec as standard too. I presume leather and metallic are options on the Merc coupe as they are on my estate.

The only advantage of the C250 is tax, it is about £100 a month less than the 330d.

The 330d would murder the C250, but you'd expect it to as it competes with the C350 CDI. A 120d keeps up with the C250 due to weight advantage; one easily stayed with me today going up a hill on an A road.

Not with the same spec you can't.

You can't even buy a new 320d coupe with the same spec, see my post above, I've just configured both cars on the respective manufacturers websites. A 330d M-Sport coupe is more expensive OTR before you add 1 single option, £43505 with similar equipment, albeit a bigger engine, so £5k difference.

Do Mercedes not have a clutched automatic in their line-up yet?
The new B Class has a 7 speed dual clutch auto (see the comment about it above).

The SLS has had a DCT for a couple of years so it must be regarded as fairly robust!

Unfortunately this looks like a Honda accord coupe on the outside and the angular dash would have looked out of place 5 years ago.

It's hugely expensive as well. The e coupe looks far better on the outside, and slightly on the inside

Come on Merc, pension the old girl off and give us something sexy.

I always considered myself a real Merc fan - as were most of my family, not least my grandad who got his first during the war and stayed pretty loyal ever after. But since the demise of the W140 era cars I've just not had much enthusiasm and I don't really think these help. If I want a BMW I'll get one, Merc don't need to build me one and the whole AMG thing leaves me cold. Look at this compared with say a W124 coupe - now there was a car which really new what it wanted to be.

As the old man used to say, a Merc is for cruising and a BMW is for rushing.

But looking for a new punt I suddenly also noticed how expensive they are. A Q7 in low spec but a few toys is £44k, the equivalent Merc another 10k mimimum, also slower and worse on gas. All the while the engineering is a bit backward as well. Looking for a quick 4x4 - have you seen the 0-60 of an X3 3.0?? Not the quick one, just the middle model in the range - 6.2 secs? And the equivalent Merc - oh yes they forgot to make it in RHD, bonkers.

And yes - I know - I'll go and get my slippers and Daily Mail and go back to sleep.....

Just had a look at the lease prices on these and they're in the same ballpark as the 3-series...

Interesting.

confused

Is that referring to the pricing mentioned in the article? If so you need to add:

Reversing camera £390
Telephone pre-wire £290
Harman Kardon hi-fi £650
Heated seats £330
COMMAND £2245
Memory package £1095
Leather £1350
Metallic £645

As all of these were added to our car. £33,635 plus the above gives £40,630.

I'm gonna go out on the limb and say this is the only car you'll ever really need in the real world. Yes it's expensive, but it looks nice. I like it.

I'm referring to the price of the car with auto & without options. And that price is rather important imo, as a fully optioned car would hit £46k!

That rather depends on who "you" is. What if you have 3 kids and a couple of big dogs? Or you live half a mile down a track? Or you want something you can use if it snows?
