The ones with MOTORSPORT indented into the face are forged rather than cast, are they not? As seen on the E36 M3 GT.
All of that style were forged rather than cast, genuine ones have a little square recess between two of the bolt holes where a little ///M badge resides - which in the pic (admittedly very small on the phone) those appear to lack.I've never seen genuine ones with Motorsport embossed into the face either - however I've not seen either a GT or GT Edition in the metal either and M Registry doesn't seem to want to play with the phone (home interwebnets currently borked, thank you Messrs. Branson & Bolt, yes it is fast - for the 3 hours a week it works properly...).
I would say the odds of E36 M3 wheels being genuine when not fitted to an E36 M3 are remote at the very best.
Genuine sets will also be staggered (7.5J and 8.5J x 17 iirc), fakes usually arent at 8J x 17 all round. I've a genuine front one in the garden, will e-mail you a pic of front and back when I can get a shot in the light.

I don't know about the Imola ones, but the 3.0 GT definitely has Motorsport embossed on them. Also come with a gold spare wheel of the same design, not sure if I remember why.Zwolf said:

I've also fancied one of these;

But the need for valve stem oil seals puts me off this one.
