because they have been seriously burned by accusations of being too retro for too long e.g. old XJ, and doing it quite badly e.g. S-type. I think they want to decidedly 'move forward'.

And those (gorgeous btw) wire wheels are going to cope with 550hp and 500lb ft of torque are they?

That's a lot of money for having to explain those alloys to everyone you meet...
No need to explain those beauties mate. Proper wire wheelage.

Err what's wrong with the 'alloys' wire wheels rather suit it don't they or is it just me? I rather like it.
They just seem a bit much to me, is all. Different strokes, of course... smile
What it needs are some TSW Venoms, or maybe some Ronal Teddies.

Interesting how they've managed to integrate some current design cues into a retro design, such as the rear window design and the chrome 'Jaguar' strip above the rear number plate.

The only bit that doesn't work for me is the design behind the front wheels, both in the shutline of the bonnet and the OTT vents. Something more like the E-type, or indeed the XK or the Range Rover would be better. Or perhaps 'active flaps'? (fnarr fnarr)

So, by "English", do they mean "vamped-up retro left-hook penis substitute"? Should suit the clarkson oaf very well then.

Exactly, this would just make them look even more 'old school'. They'd need a thoroughly modern image before doing this kind of thing. Merc have done it because they have that modern image.

Just..... beautifull.
Must be the only restyle / recreation that actually looks good. All the stunning looks of an E Type ++ and modern mechanicals.
In this day and age an E Type isn't much fun - not at the present prices. And before anyone says anything, I HAVE driven one recently (the E type!). I'd pay good money to drive this.....

I feel as though I should hate it for being a pastiche, too overtly retro etc etc

But that is utterly gorgeous. So glad they ditched the quad lights, that really didn't work.

I'll take one in BRG with the wire wheels and a tan interior - just remove the silly name off the back please...

Mmm... I'll have one in Gunmetal with tan interior and a splash of brushed Alu instead of the wood. Maybe a CF-rimmed Moto-lita-style wheel too for that extra modern touch.

Edited to fit the English language. rolleyes

A fair point, however, if somewhat grumpily expressed smile. Copy adjusted accordingly. And in my defence , you can actually specify 20-inch alloys as an option...
