Forgive my ignorance, but is the OP thinking of buying a diesel SLK? Does such a thing exist?

Anyway, I would lease, if the mileage was acceptable.
Their original post said 1.8 which is petrol

The SLK is a nice car for a 30 something. Female hairdresser but it's just does nothing for me as a 24 yr old professional

If you want a proper driers car get a couple of year old mx-5 for 6k keep it for 2 years then you will get around 3-4 for it

It's funny how you guys can never answer the question which was initially asked.
Why would we? 3 days ago you were looking to insure a 1.2 Clio.
Is the SLK to be parked in between his Clio and R8.....

You've never had a Merc. You might like one.
I probably would, especially one of those nice rumbly V8s.

But I am 42 years old.

When I was 19 I had an MG BGT V8.

A Merc of any description was the last thing on my mind.

Good point, well made.

I had a think about this and a 19 year old doesnt look right in an SLK.
A 19 year old in, say, a 1989 500SE looks pretty cool.

lease works out cheaper.

i'd go for the diesel as its got loads of torque, 0-60 in 6.7 and 57 mpg

you can get them for £199 plus vat too

insurance on anything is a lot for a 19 year old, even on a 10 year old 106 it will be £2500 so i know where you're coming from

however, the running costs including insurance will be £500 ins plus £250 for the car plus after year 1 you have insurance etc so it will cost you say £1,000 per month including petrol. Not ridiculous for a 19 year old at all. However, if you haven't moved out yet then you could get one lovely flat for that

The world has gone mad.

Why on earth would a 19 year old want a 1.8 SLK?

Even my Mum would turn her nose up at one of them, and she's 75.

And six grand for insurance?

I really, really hate to say this, but have you ever considered an old MX5?

It would be ten times more fun for a fraction of the price.
Had two MX5's (2.0 Sport) then a SLK 1.8 manual.

SLK quicker, better handling, nicer drive, and a far nicer smoother quieter better place to be.

But that doesn't fit in with Pistonheads predudice so don't let the facts get in the way biggrin

So where does the interest payments and lease companies profit come from?

Or are lease companies charities these days?

I have an SLK 250cdi arriving on Thursday for a 24 month lease, it's on 3+23 for 15k p/a and comes with metallic paint, leather, parktronic, heated seats and air scarf - £318 p/m including VAT.

It's not the AMG version but I'm happy with what I'm paying, there isn't a chance that it's going to be worth £27k in 2 years.

How on heaven's earth can anyone in their right minds (apart from the exceedingly rich) even think about about paying £6000 pounds per year on insurance.

I'm a father and if you were my son i'd take you out to the back garden and give you a bl00dy good talking to.

Go for a 2.0litre mx5, my son did when he was 19. Fully comp he was under 2k :-)

I've driven it a-bit and it's a blast..

If someone were to post questions like 'what car should I buy that's as different from an MX5 as possible?' or 'what's the best way to finance a Austin Nash Metropolitan?'.

They would still get replies telling them the ideal solution would be an MX5.

Lets see.

OP drives a 1.2 Clio.
OP asked about DOC cover on said Clio insurance so he can 'drive nan and dad to the supermarket' (or possibly to cover him to drive a brand new leased car?)
OP now asks about leasing an SLK costing him £6k ins + £3k lease payments p.a, because 'he can afford it'
OP is called Lee which I am sure has been used by previous fantasists.

So its not possible to get SLK for £250 inc Vat then? The whole arguement is based on a fantasy price?. Well I never!!
