The 750MC Stock Hatch and Classic Stock Hatch series are both excellent introductions to motorsport (along with Locost and Formula Vee).
Yes it costs about £4K per year to go racing but you don't have to do every race in the season and if you think about it £4K is only the annual depreciation on a Boxster. What would you rather have?
One 20 minute race has more excitement than a whole year on the roads.

Seriously, from the last race at Cadwell Park last year we've all been counting down the days until the next at Silverstone on the 31st of March. Really sad but racing gets to you. A Boxster (or even a Ferrari) could never give that kind of anticipation.

A standard road legal XR2 for sub 1k? Yes please.
This pile of crap? No thanks. Very disappointing SOTW.

Looking at those photos though tells me that yellow ones are fasterCould you enter the Ford XR challenge with that, it looks slightly cheaper and and you might be slightly more equal than in stock hatch:

Awesome choice for SOTW!
Anyone looking to try motor racing should come and join us and give it a go.
Stock hatch is great racing on a minimal budget with a very friendly/knowledgable bunch who will be happy to help you in the paddock.
With big grids for each event you will always find yourself racing againsts some others.
This short clip of lap one at Cadwell gives a good idea of how close the racing is, proper door handle to door handle stuff;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l90lr74j_w
We now have two series, both up to 1600cc;
Classic Hatch for pre 93 hatches (XR2's Nova's, Swift Gti) and
Stockhatch A for newer models (mainly Saxo VTR 106).
The cars run balast and regs limit how much you can spend on the engine spec.
Race entry fees are kept really low.
Currently only £230-£300 per weekend for a 2 race weekend (plus practice).
Costs vary depending on which circuit we are at.
There are 8 double race meetings this year.
Championship entry only £110.
Set of regulation (Yoko A048) tyres about £450 & you can make these last.
Club details are on here
http://www.750mc.co.uk/F-stock-hatch.php
Car rental available from a couple of people this season take a look here;

Its not the usual SOTW but its a good one!

So am I now I've actually earmarked her KA as a track project, the Puma could donate an engine and gearbox and then the place that bought a load of Rally bits from Boreham down the road can supply me with OEM rally parts to beef the rest of the roller skate up. I just need to find a way of making more space and buying her a new car

So am I now 10/10, brilliant shed and one I'd opened up the ad for several times already. My problem is storage, a race car, trailer and tow car all require a fair bit of space (arrive and drive is probably the way to go for me).
Slightly shocked that so many people are rating this poorly, I thought everyone on here was a die-hard track addict who didn't car about image... Right up until it comes to parting with cash!

Instead of fitting a Puma engine (by the way I wouldn't mess with the white Ka it's already race tuned and balanced and engine swap would be ballast) why not borrow this from my watch list as well...

I can't help think a 2.0 would be too heavy, the 1.7 is a light lump. I'd probably try to tune the 1.3 first anyway, then I'd be allowed to race against people in slower cars and novices. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Fiesta-Rally-Race-R...
