THE say . . . a S2000 is the quicker car to throw around a track.

Anyone?
I'd be stunned if I could still see the NSX by the third corner.
Why's that, because you'd have span it and be facing the opposite direction??

Maybe because the uber-experienced Gan San says so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nl5cFzcZ8YY

I read it as PR/advertising for the new model as well.

Peak speed of 140mph, top-down. So equivalent to 150 roof-up, I'd say. Which is about the same as I passengered in a well-driven E46 M3 (non-racer) and very well driven (amateur racer) 964 widebody around there.

Given Gan San is arguably a step above both the above guys in terms of ability, that would suggest the S2000 is a little slower than the above two cars around a circuit...which you'd expect from raw stats. And the NSX was deemed better/quicker than the 964, and is a close match (probably a shade slower) than the M3.

Having owned both, I'd still say a stock 3.0 NSX is easily a match for an S2000, and from what owners have told me, the Type-S would nail it into the ground...

Enjoyed reading this thread. Some lucky owners of NSX, hehe well jealous.

One thing that is striking is how small the car looks, especially height. Why then is it still so heavy at 1400KG? it's a bit of a lard arse to be honest.

OK. Maybe the S2000 is easier to haul around a track?

Followed a red one this evening on my way to work, reminded me how much I love them, and how tiny they look in amongst modern cars.

edit : I just looked up the dimensions - It's 3 inches lower than my MR2 Roadster, and only 4 inches wider, and I think of mine as a pretty small car!

cloud9 Lovely machines - One day ......

I forget how small they are, or is it how big everything else is getting? I parked at the zoo next to a Mazda 3 I think it was, it absolutely dwarfed the NSX, surprised that it was longer than the Honda too.

About 1,350kg grovsie, and that's kerb weight. So less than 100kg more than an S2000 or slightly less than a Boxster-S, both of which are a little smaller and less practical...NSX is c.4.4m long and has a good boot for an MR.

Be surprised if a Mazda 3 is longer - wife's Golf is clearly shorter.

Not a featherweight, but not lardy.

But it's aluminuim is it not? and it's also extremely low. It's surprising how heavy it is IMO, and it's not exaactly a Merc S class filled with gizmo's either.

But it seems to go ok, and it won't float way.

From memory this is just one of probably 4 NSX that I have ever seen. I took this shot in France in August 2013, wish I had gone up close for a better look.

A few weeks ago I had a quick dice with an NSX from a standstill in my M3. I was shocked at how quick they are, but if they only weigh 1,250 odd kgs, that's circa 350 KGs lighter than an M3.....however, once the old E46 is on the move.....

My rego paper has it at 1315kg.
That includes bose sound system, massively heavy electric seats, cruise control, climate control blah. It also has the central sun shade/visorr.. Wouldn't call it spartan tbh.

More like 1,320kg, but still close to 300kg lighter.

On the move there's very little in it - NA1 NSX just north of 200bhp/tonne, NA2 ~213bhp/tonne, E46 M3 ~216bhp/tonne, NSX has better CdA, so real-world it's a fag-paper between them and all about who's got the better launch and gets the better gear-shifts.

(I know as I had a play a couple of years ago with an E46 M3 cabrio. Honours were pretty even - between 1 standing and 2 rolling starts I had it 2-to-1, but in each case it was down to who started better.)

TBH, I rate that gen M3 as one of the best real-world single-car-garage driver's cars. Not as much sense-of-occasion as the NSX, but almost as good to drive - more adjustable and more-readily/easily playful, similarly excellent throttle response and engine sound, M3 just a little bit slower on turn-in and with a crashier ride and not quite the ultimate composure. Day-to-day though if I had to cash-out and get a single all-rounder, that'd be the yardstick.
