Brand loyalty: £250K on 23 Peugeots

Q: What do you get if you spend a quarter of a million pounds on Peugeots? A: A weekend in an RCZ...

We're not really sure what to make of this, which arrived in the PH inbox in press release form mere moments ago.

An inexplicably cheery Terry Rackley
An inexplicably cheery Terry Rackley
But the 'news' is this: former Harlow policeman Terry Rackley has spent a quarter of a million pounds on 23 Peugeots since 1990 at the same dealer.

His reward for such brand loyalty? Aside, no doubt, from an enormous amount of depreciation over the past two decades, Mr Rackley has been given gift vouchers to "treat his family to an experience of his choice" and the use of an RCZ for the weekend.

Seems like pretty scant reward for such unswerving fidelity to the brand... you can read the full press release in all its oddness below...

PEUGEOT FAN SPENDS OVER A QUARTER OF A MILLION POUNDS
WITH BRISTOL STREET MOTORS

In the last 20 years, local retired policeman, Terry Rackley, has spent an astonishing quarter of a million pounds on 23 Peugeot cars with Bristol Street Motors, and has been rewarded by the dealership and Peugeot for his continued loyalty.

Terry, who lived in Harlow and has just moved to Suffolk, bought his first Peugeot from Bristol Street Motors' dealer principal, Richard Geary, in 1990. After building a great relationship with Richard, Terry continued to buy Peugeot vehicles for himself, his wife Mary and his children, Steven and Katie.

Richard and sales executive, Glyn Williams, at the dealership on Edinburgh Way, Harlow, presented Terry with gift vouchers on Friday 2nd March, to treat his family to an experience of his choice, such as a luxury spa day, a ride in a hot air balloon or even dinner on the Thames, on behalf of the dealership and Peugeot Financial Services, to thank him for his loyalty.

The team at Peugeot's head office will also recognise Terry's devotion to the brand by treating him to the use of a luxurious Peugeot RCZ sports coupe to drive during a weekend of his choice.

Terry explained: "I trust Richard and appreciate his straight talking style and honesty, which has encouraged me to go back to him time and time again for the family's new cars. I frequently visit the dealership just for a coffee and a chat, which often leads to me deciding on my next purchase.

"My latest car is the beautiful Peugeot 508 Allure saloon, my wife currently drives a 207, my son a 306 and my daughter a 308. We joke about our driveway looking like a Peugeot forecourt!

"We've been overwhelmed by the treatment from both Peugeot's head office and the team at Bristol Street Motors', who we've come to know and trust so well. I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the beautiful Peugeot RCZ and we're looking forward to putting the voucher to good use!"

Richard Geary commented: "Terry has long been an extremely loyal customer of Peugeot and we wanted to acknowledge this with a gift for not only Terry, but his family too. We appreciate his support of the dealership over the years and always look forward to helping him choose his next Peugeot car."

Erm...

Nothing to see here. Move on.. No, that's harsh, That's a new car every year (I'm assuming that's with his own hard earned?). Even if it was with BMW or whoever, the burnt cash in depreciation is staggering.

I mean the weekends in Vegas would have been cheaper right?

I wonder how long it takes the Pug PR machine to kick into life and make this offer less paltry, like ooh, his next car free? Way to go to encourage brand loyalty. Not.

Rant over

Guy in America puts a million miles on his Accord - Honda give him a brand new one.

Guy spends way too much money at a Peugeot dealership - they give him nothing more than a test drive.

One of those is rewarding brand loyalty and one is just a test drive.

They've got the headline wrong, it should read 'retired copper LOSES £250k on Peugeots'.

The A4 photocopy of the gift card cracks me up and just makes the whole situation that much funnier.
