Love it, love all alpina cars. For a second though I thought it was an M5 with the 4 exhausts at the back.

Will someone please order a touring with black interior, and any exterior except white? Ideally, tick as many options boxes as possible without making it look too blingy.

I'll have it off you in about 6 years.

Cheers! thumbup

Do they do it in AWD like the other cars?
No, and they're not intending to according to the product manager I spoke to at Geneva. (the 535d is available in AWD)

But the response I got when asking about this & using the car in snowy Switzerland was telling:

"We suggest fitting our LSD is more in line with what our customers want in snow'

Made me want to book a trip to Buchloe on the spot.

Is the Touring version a candidate for the best all rounder out there?

170mph performance, relatively economical, comfortable, roomy and good looking?

I cant think of another car that ticks so many boxes.

Had a good drive of this car on monday. What a car fast and comfortable and reasonably economical. The car overall MPG was showing 34mpg which considering how its most likely been driven i found impressive. It seems to have a more comfirtable mode than BMW and a sportier mode than BMW. Perfect

A6 with the biturbo V6 diesel is 46k basic; why is that not a competitor?

At £8k over a 535d given the improved spec, performance and chassis I think it's very good value. Trouble is you can get 10% off a 535d pretty easily and Alpina won't think about discounts (at least that's what I have read on these very forums)......so at a £13k difference assuming you get a 10% discount on a 535d I am not so sure.

but Alpina the same as ruf appeal to a niche market who probably are less price elastic.

The 535d is a great car but if you want the best diesel then there's one answer. Given that only 20 D5's will be imported this year it must be better placed to depreciate less. We plan to keep ours for a long time as we have with the 330d which it replaces and so buying something that you really enjoy driving every day is important. Gavin

I've owned the new 535d m sport touring for around 6 months now. Ex demo 59k list, (paid 49k) so has every extra inc soft close, panoramic, 5 cameras etc etc. Best car I have ever owned, even when compared to RR vogue, cayenne turbo, db9, etc. Have a 997 C4S on drive and prefer the Beemer. No hassle, no one wants to race you, and yummy mummies stare. Beats the coffee bean signal in the porker.

What a car, currently my favourite super saloon on sale. Talking of MPG, Steve Sutcliffe averaged 38 MPG in the autocar test, against 18 for an M5. Thats a big difference over 20k a year for your average business user! The Alpina kit gives this car some kudos too. The 535d is a lovely thing but could be a 520d sport. No mistaking the Alpina. Ive always loved Alpinas. The bi turbo D3, was arguably the best all round E90 3 Series built. I understand they ride better than the BMW versions too...

They ride a million times better than BMW versions, even with 19" wheels.

Love ours - should've bought one years ago.
