[quote=ELUSIVEJIM]Come on Jaguar what are you doing?

Porsche have stuck with the same simular design for the 911 over the years.

Ford built a new GT40 back in 2005 and it sold.

BMW has the new Mini which will continue to sell by the bucket load.

Build a modern E Type which looks like an E Type but slightly more modern.

Bingo a sales success.

OH GOD CAR NOT LOOK LIKE I THINK COS GOT STICKERS OH NOES I AM DISAPPOINT. I WILL NOT BE TRADING IN MY 205 DIESEL FOR THIS.
I haven't got a 205 diesel...getmecoat
Neither have I, but I can spell most of the time, and have E Types and other Jaguar for years, so we are not Trolls but observers of the design as posted on P/H article.

It had better be available with a manual box!

If all they offer is a torque-converter slush box then Porsche won't need to worry about losing any Boxster/Cayman/911 sales (and Aston, Audi, BMW etc will sleep easy as well).
It would just take a few sales from middle aged female Merc SLK buyers ... wink

Oh OK, you can have one then. But do please realise it's camouflaged for the very reason most people are complaining about laugh

First they show the awesome coupe and now they camouflage cabriolet with ugly stickers. Complaints are quite obvious.

You plan to do handbrake turns or race it at LeMans?

Hmmm ... when the DB7/ XK8 shape first came out it was stunning. I wanted one soooo badly. But then it seems that all successive astons and the sportier jags have just been variations on a theme. As if the pop charts were full of band after band doing covers of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Now, at long last we get promised an F-type. And the question we've got to ask is whether it can live up to the expectations of that glorious name and heritage....

...or is it going to be just another DB7/DB9/DBS lookalike?

I've squinted at the cammo photos until I've gone cherry pink in the mush and I can't quite make my mind up. I do so much want to adore this car, but I can't shake the feeling that it's going to be a bit of a cynical marketing exercise. I do hope I'm wrong.

That's very worn out as an expression I think, not that I have ever understood it. It's a bit like saying that Jaguars are for all gits...

There is something quite special in driving the nuts off a roadster with the roof down, certainly not in town but on a twisty country road in spring, with all the noises and smells that a proper roof would isolate from.

Quite, why on earth would would you want big rear discs, when they do so little work. More unsprung weight is definitely not "sporty" (whatever that means).

Funny the stuff you read sometimes, the marketing men have it very easy.

I get that, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my Elise without the roof as I think the car was designed without it and the bit of cloth was clearly an afterthought. In fact driving it with the roof up seemed wrong.

However, with cars like these that are designed for coupe and droptop I always think the lack of roof spoils the lines somewhat, and I can't help, when seeing an open top GT/Sports that the person has chosen it to be looked at. And they often have hair or headscarf to match that image IMHO smile

On your other point, I AM fitting in surprisingly well with other Jag owners, now I know why smile

It does have yellow calipers though by the looks, which are always faster, so all is not lost.

Automatics are becoming more popular than manuals these days, even in sports cars.

I think it will take a lot of sales from Porsche, Audi, BMW and Mercedes. I certainly hope so.

Indeed the last thing you ever want to do is lock up rears under braking, .....in to a ditch in an instant.

One very good reason for it is that the car will be made with early off-tool parts, so fit and finish won't be to production standards.

The last thing any manufacturer wants is early pics of a new model displaying anything other than perfect panel profiles, shutlines etc etc.

I would expect some parts not to be off-tool yet either, and that'd be very obvious without a wrap over the top.

Camouflage at the very least indicates it's an early build car, if not a full-blown prototype, and probably hides a few minor sins too.

These cars need to be used on the road to complete their testing, and now many people have a quality camera and internet connection on their phone, the risk of washing your dirty linen in public is just too great.

Lastly the car's probably a year from production. There will be a carefully planned unveiling later this year I expect. The general public's reaction to the launch would be underwhelming at best if they already think they saw the finished product 6 months earlier.

Well said - agree with all of that. They could also be testing different bodystyles and panels so that what you see now isn't what you'll be buying when it's on sale.
