So what car have you been obsessing about today?? (Vol 2)
Discussion
991.2 GT3 Manual for me.
Popped into Porsche Centre Leeds today to have a look at the mouth watering selection they have. Salesman was very friendly and I had a good look around eveything.
They had an all black GT3, I sat in it and felt this immediate sense of hmmmmmm this is it.
Drove home and bought a lottery ticket

seen an Omega MV6 i like on Ebay. seems decent for the money MOT'd it runs and ticks all the boxes on my wierd RWD vauxhall fetish list.
only problem is i cant get time off work and its in Ruddy southampton.(i'm in Glasgow)
currently trying to figure out if i can do Glasgow to Southampton whilst still working on the train then drive home and be in work the next morning. and if the wife will notice a third black Omega appearing. (yes i've already got 2 MV6s but their a 2.6 and 3.0 this is a 3.2 i'm looking at. and whilst pretty much the same the 3.2 is a much better engine and well sod it to be honest i just want another Omega.

An owner's thread beckons, Harry. Chop to it...
Plenty of ownership threads already in the archives- this is Chris Harris' old Merc loaner!Which means it has on the one hand been faultlessly maintained, and on the other ragged very hard indeed. Drives like a new car though - lovely thing, and bonkers when required.

Very interesting... New gearbox since? Which means it has on the one hand been faultlessly maintained, and on the other ragged very hard indeed. Drives like a new car though - lovely thing, and bonkers when required.

Today, I have almost found one of my unicorn cars!
Ideally it would be the B204GT engine instead of the B200ET one (the former is a 16V head developed by Porsche), but it is manual!!
Most of them are na 2.8 V6 PVA engines with an auto gearbox
Interior is exactly the colour I'd always wanted, the exterior would be even nicer in a dark blue, but close enough!
I can't stop looking at it

Payday and eBay sales looming I have been thinking about a spiritual successor to my Alfa 145 Cloverleaf.
Shopping list.
1/ As quick or quicker than my Alfa.
2/ Quirky.
3/ Parts bin upgrades and after market potential.
4/ Uncool, seriously uncool. Low profile.
5/ Left field. I don't want to see a dozen of them on my way to work.
6/ Two or three doors.
My current steed is a Rover 620Ti that happily fills all those boxes apart from being a bit of a wagon. I forgive that due to the classic insurance.
So my thoughts have been mostly. VW Beetle 2.3 V5 or 1.8 20V Turbo.
1/ Yes.
2/ It's not a Golf.
3/ Audi S3 four wheel drive is a bolt on job apparently (if not the 20V engine is very capable. V5? Not so much but sounds bonkers).
4/ It's not a Golf so the Scene lot haven't vaped over it as much.
5/ Plenty of 1.6 and 2.0 engine and diesels about but not many V5's or turbo ones.
6/ Two doors.
I absolutely hate the Golf I've had nine and they have all been terrible so getting a Beetle (Golf in a retro frock) would be a middle digit which is a bonus.
Have I completely lost it?

This weeks obsession has been over the Gallardo, I have been a massive fan of Lamborghini scince cannonball run as a kid. Always thought the exotic supercars would be £100's of thousands and wasnt until i started looking at R8s did I realise how "cheap" the baby lambos have become.
Still way out of my price range still with the rising prices of Japanese sports cars who knows

I looked at Gallardos but a £5000 clutch every 20,000 miles smarts a bit.Still way out of my price range still with the rising prices of Japanese sports cars who knows
Had a run out in a 2012 C63 AMG Coupe last week. Didn't get to drive it (don't blame the owner, who'd hand over their near 500bhp RWD car to a stranger?) but the want is very strong.
The 6.2 V8 still makes one of the best noises of any combustion engine ever made, and still felt savagely fast under full throttle.

Bought a ratty old E39 530i recently that has turned out to be a bag of utter ste. I was after a Saab 9-3 Aero estate but couldn’t find any for sale locally. Now I have a hankering for a C63 AMG estate instead. The W204 makes a filthy sound, shame about the image of them. The 6.2 V8 still makes one of the best noises of any combustion engine ever made, and still felt savagely fast under full throttle.

You've clearly not been in an Abarth 124...The 6.2 V8 still makes one of the best noises of any combustion engine ever made, and still felt savagely fast under full throttle.

There's one in Wisbech with a flap in the exhaust. The owner regularly races it up and down Mount Pleasant Road against an Audi RS7 with similar exhaust flaps. Both fully open and both setting car/house/factory alarms off as the drive by. Who says there's no money in drugs these days?

Personally I would stick with the 620ti and consider some upgrades... remember the 600 is double wishbone an shares a lot with the Accord type R chassis so there are some good suspension/bracing/steering upgrades available. So my thoughts have been mostly. VW Beetle 2.3 V5 or 1.8 20V Turbo.

regarding the Beetle, a AWD conversion is not a "bolt in" event and would require an entire mk4 Awd car to cannibalise the whole floor pan. Yes a 20vt powered one is an rarity and will be the weedy ko3 150hp model, id prefer a V5 one an accept that it's not a rocket but sounds better and is a more enjoyable engine than a 20vt.
Or....buy any Beetle and a TT 3.2 vr6 and build a RSI tribute
