CLS55 AMG, it just will not go away ... maybe next summer, also Bentley Arnage, but my girlfriend already can't believe the cost of running an AM (not that she really knows) and I guess an older, heavier Bentley will be even more expensive, so I think the AMG will be enough.

Also a FFRR L322 (4.4TDV8) but I can only afford one of the above ...

My current steed is a Rover 620Ti that happily fills all those boxes apart from being a bit of a wagon. I forgive that due to the classic insurance. wink

So my thoughts have been mostly. VW Beetle 2.3 V5 or 1.8 20V Turbo.

1/ Yes.
2/ It's not a Golf.
3/ Audi S3 four wheel drive is a bolt on job apparently (if not the 20V engine is very capable. V5? Not so much but sounds bonkers).
4/ It's not a Golf so the Scene lot haven't vaped over it as much.
5/ Plenty of 1.6 and 2.0 engine and diesels about but not many V5's or turbo ones.
6/ Two doors.

I absolutely hate the Golf I've had nine and they have all been terrible so getting a Beetle (Golf in a retro frock) would be a middle digit which is a bonus. wink

Have I completely lost it? silly
Personally I would stick with the 620ti and consider some upgrades... remember the 600 is double wishbone an shares a lot with the Accord type R chassis so there are some good suspension/bracing/steering upgrades available.

regarding the Beetle, a AWD conversion is not a "bolt in" event and would require an entire mk4 Awd car to cannibalise the whole floor pan. Yes a 20vt powered one is an rarity and will be the weedy ko3 150hp model, id prefer a V5 one an accept that it's not a rocket but sounds better and is a more enjoyable engine than a 20vt.

Or....buy any Beetle and a TT 3.2 vr6 and build a RSI tribute
The trouble with upgrading the 620Ti is I'm getting on average 25-27mpg now. If I bin the g25 and go 28 or hybrid, front mount intercooler and balanced boost controller with bigger injectors I imagine 15-20mpg would be a blessing.

I took the Beetle for a test drive and it was terrible. All the worst bits of Golf with wind noise and so much body roll it felt like a Transit with a full loaded roof box.

Maybe the T16 in the back of an MGtF...

seen an Omega MV6 i like on Ebay. seems decent for the money MOT'd it runs and ticks all the boxes on my wierd RWD vauxhall fetish list.

only problem is i cant get time off work and its in Ruddy southampton.(i'm in Glasgow)

currently trying to figure out if i can do Glasgow to Southampton whilst still working on the train then drive home and be in work the next morning. and if the wife will notice a third black Omega appearing. (yes i've already got 2 MV6s but their a 2.6 and 3.0 this is a 3.2 i'm looking at. and whilst pretty much the same the 3.2 is a much better engine and well sod it to be honest i just want another Omega.
Spat my cornflakes at the dog, tell me you now have 3 Omegas?
Must admit I have fond memories of driving round in my bosses MV6 back in the day pretending I was an unmarked cop.

Mingblau S8 with manual gearbox and stock 18" Avus wheels. So pretty, so humble, for those who prefer something light and fast tongue out

I won't say obsessing, but I'm looking at 2.5 or 3.0 V6 X-Type's for a winter car.

I never really thought they were worth the money when new, but the prices they fetch now make them seem good VFM.

Am I in for trouble?

They don't have a great reputation for reliability but I never had any issues with mine (albeit a few years back now so a fair bit newer then). Seem to recall a whining transmission and some alloy corrosion but little else. Loved mine as a daily stter and with the 4WD it was very planted in winter months. Only downside I recall was that it returned pretty poor mpg.

I've been looking at the current XF Sportbrake as I saw one (a rare sight) in just the right spec (dark color, not-dark wheels, twin pipes) and thought it looked superb. Good luck finding a petrol one though grumpy Are the jag six cylinder diesels any good?

Alfa 4C. Alfa 4C. Alfa 4C.

I close my eyes and it's all I can see. Must get my hands on one.

Sub 40k right now! Surely one of the most jaw dropping cars of recent years, just a shame about the engine and gearbox.

For me I cant stop obsessing over C5 Corvettes, if I could get my hands on a Z06 I would be a happy man!

There were some crazy finance deals on the 4C a while back. I don't do finance so cannot recall whether it was a contract hire PCP thing or whatever it was but seem to recall it was less than £300 for a new 4C. Assuming you hand it back at the end for a new car under warranty it seemed bonkers cheap.

I too have a massive hankering for a Corvette but C6 is the one I am after.

They were PCH deals, the Anniversary Spider was 10+23 at £399 with 8k miles a year.

There were some cheaper coupes at £300 a month on a similar profile.

I had a Anniversary Spider last year for 6 months over summer and autumn. Sublime little thing, miss it a lot!

Incredible deal!

Not understanding PCH/PCP etc, could you do a hire limited to 6 months? I thought all these deals tied you in for years? This is perhaps one of the big factors I have always been put off by - the lack of flexibility in it.

And if you adored it, how come you got shot? I must say I think they look great, My mate in Leeds has one and had a nice play coming back from a local meet the other day and in the tunnels it sounded as good as it looks.

It was a 2 year deal but I’d racked up the miles in 6 months and realised it was going to cost me a small fortune in mileage charges if I kept using it at the same rate.

It was my first experience of a car like that after years of fast and slow saloons and hatchbacks. I kept finding any excuse to go out for a drive, used it for commuting etc. Compared to my mates S2 Elise it was a bit larger and softer so easier to live with as a daily.

I’d had a proper chav spec 480 odd bhp Evo X prior to the 4C and despite the Alfa having half the power it was a good 600-700kg lighter and was way more fun.

The lease company allowed the contract to be moved and I found a fellow PH’er who was interested so he took over the lease. All in all it cost me under £5k to run the Alfa for 6 months which was alright in my book.

Back to boring motors now, need to be sensible for a while sadly.

That looks fantastic! Well it sounds like you got some good miles out of it for a reasonable price and managed to get out of the deal without too much pain so a result all things considered. Lovely car.

Back to Corvettes there were 2 lovely ones out on the tunnel run a few months back.

One of the owners (Oliver) is doing the build of my 1986 Civic, his Vette sounded bonkers in comparison to my ISF.

Mitsubishi Lancer estate. silly

I have always had a soft spot for the Gallant VR4 but I spotted a nice blue Lancer estate earlier with some Evo bits stuck to it and didn't look bad at all. 1.6 engine was obvious through the daft exhaust but if you want the show without the go it kind of make sense.

It could be the best looking post Millennium estate I have seen that isn't an Alfa 159

Im desperate for an m240i but the mileage I do 25k - the petrol and insurance costs, and the very real threat in my area (Bradford) of my house being mashed up and macheted for it out me off frown
