You know I will probably get lynched for this, but these restomods are leaving me a bit cold now. They are literally everywhere, on every car show. They are having to go further and further to make an impression (such as some of Dave Kingdigs work). I'm a massive fan of the less is more school (look at my modified Sagaris for example), but I'm seeing market saturation on this now.

I agree. Totally original or very mildly modded is more special than these things now.

Im with you. Id rather see nice twists on original stuff. In 2015 i had a ta22 celica, and instead of engine swapping for a jap 2.0turbo, I built up a original to the car 2t engine ,using modern components and machining, electric dizzy and modern carbs. It made 130 bhp at the rear wheels. Sadly it got stolen, just after completion, but the point is, You want a classic to ACTUALLY be a classic,(but be a fun drive) not a new car with an old shell.

I'm building a 1602 inspired by my old E30 M3 so deliberately LHD. All the mechanical stuff is new and the 16v four pot has ITB's and standalone. I've tried to keep the aesthetics period, hence low back Cobra seats, Britax harnesses etc.

Sorry to sully this thread with an old All-Aggro but there has been a bit of love and graft put into this Alleg-eetle,

I don't like this "stance" nonsense but he's kept a bit of motoring history on the road. I wonder when those Fuchs alloys were little they said to mummy "when I grow up I'm going to be on a 1972 2.7 Carrera RS...."

They still never finish anything, and it's starting to wear thin on me too. He did sort the gearbox, then took the engine out to add turbos, that didn't go well (can't remember why), so he's now supercharging it. At least, he was in the last update. Can't comment on the windscreen, is it because if it has a windscreen, it must have wipers?
Yep, if it has a windscreen it has to have wipers, for an IVA it has to have washer as well if screen fitted, obviously no room in it for that!
When it was on Fifth Gear.

That car always seems to define all show and no go. I've seen a couple of vids of it doing timed runs and it just doesn't seem to be as fast as it's made out to be, all I've ever seen online is the claims of 200mph etc and it never cracks anything close

I like that. It makes a rather dull car interesting.

Which one? The Beetle or the Allegro?

It’s ripe for a Subaru lump to be thrown in.

I have always thought that an Allegro with wide arches and trackday spec would be quite lovely.

I know. I have a problem.

In this month's magazine, he mentions that it has reached 183 or 185, can't remember which, but that it needs another 200bhp to hit the magical 200 target, hence the supercharging.

A meteor is 550-650hp...That is already plenty to hit 200mph (I can find plenty of cars that will do >200 with ~500hp). I'd recommend he works on aerodynamics instead of just trying to brute force it with more power.
