Replace the electric motor with a rev happy 300 horsepower twin cam and it'd be just about perfect.
Agree, im all for electric cars etc but thats just too pretty to be electric. That needs a carb fed snorty engine!
Agreed. I'm all for electric replacing petrol and diesel in new family cars, but not retrofited in classics.
Hmm. For me, it sort of depends.

Was the classic all about the engine?

E-Type? No interest in an EV conversion. Needs to make a noise.

Citroen DS? All about the shape and the waft. Perfect for an EV.

911? Needs the flat 6 rasp.

Fiat Cinquecento? Dreadful asthmatic engine in a cute as a button shape. Stick an EV in it.

Fair comment.

I saw that Alfa and thought it was one of the best looking cars I'd seen in years.

Then I saw it is an EV and I lost all interest.

A real shame.

In fairness there are loads of MX5's so it's no great loss. Look for the backdated 964 towards the end though. Such a shame. I dared to say as much in the comments but it didn't go down too well. laugh

To continue the theme from the above, providing the MX5 isn't rotten and has had some chassis strengthening, the dull engine in the MX5 makes it ideal for an EV transplant.

Really, that's a very good point.

I think I've always kinda unconsciously thought along those lines but that's the first time I've seen the idea articulated.

I agree wholeheartedly.

That is superb.

It manages to exhibit both restraint and a dollop of the extrovert. Lovely, powerful lines that are not inconsistent with the original.
and yet, to my eyes, the windscreen is a mess.

Despite all the very nice fabrication and design elsewhere, he's left a chopped windscreen in place.
Interesting!

If we could reconstruct the windscreen any way we'd want: How would you do it differently? (I ask because I'm curious)
I'd like it hinged at the top like the early busses were. I think anyway?
Could go for twin folding brooklands style screens, I think as is works for me though.
Both of those alternatives (LaurasOtherHalf and 1602Mark) work for me. Plenty of character in those alternatives.

I also don't mind the cut-down windscreen as it is, at the moment. It's a design that's not unknown on cars that endeavour to be a "speedster" type. Maybe this particular version of it is lesser, in some people's minds, because it maintains the original pillars in place. Which are a bit thick at the base (as they were originally designed to support a much larger glass).

Mazda MX-5 Round Headlights

So... Is this a handsome alternative? Or simply trying too hard?

Only the front body panels are replaced. It's a kit obviously. Article here:

Car is great but I don't like the paint job. Can't stand matte paint.

Late ‘30s Chevy?

Nice, but not a fan of big inch alloys on street rods I’m afraid.

I'd be curious to see if everyone still counts it as well modified when they see all the shocking welding on it..

A friend of mine has an E31 840Ci which he has fitted full E39 M5 running gear, and a supercharger to.

It's very subtle and looks completely OEM but is rather quick.

I'll try and get some pics.

Talking of BMW running gear swaps, I'll put this here rather than the "other" thread for 2 reasons - firstly that it's so wrong but the right kind of wrong, and secondly, the seller is quite puzzled about the whole shenanigans which is quite endearing!

Winter project anyone?
