RE: Spotted: Opel Manta i200/i400

Love it, if only I had more garage space to hide it beside by Mk2 Escort and S2 106 Rallye - perhaps I could convince Dad to get rid of the Mk2 Jag!! But then already owning a caged Grp1 ish spec RS2000 I doubt this would get the use it deserves! Beautiful car though, sometimes wonder if I should have gone Griffin rather than Ford but I've spent more than that car's asking price on the RS and built it myself so it's staying.
I've never been a fan of the X-pack Ford kits though - Forest arches yes, tarmac perhaps a little wide and I do prefer the box arches to bubble arches but I prefer the Mk1 Escort shape to my Mk2.
I would rather have this as a 'fun' car than the new Exige though, but then character and old school feel has a lot to do with that - i.e. lapping while smiling and loving the experience while being lapped by the Exige driven by my Sister lol...

Hmmm, what modern car would you give the box arch treatment to? Imagine an xfr with box arches.
I don't know if it would suit a modern car although boxey lines have become fashionable again, just look at the swayge marks on the new golf or new mercs.I would like to see a box arched version of an ML.
I love Mantas. I owned two, one in 1983 when I was 18 and a second in 1985. Both were 1978 1.9 Berlinetta SRs. The first one I modded by adding a high lift can, 32/36 DGV Weber, big bore exhaust etc. Also a set of Group A rally Bilstein shocks that were WAY too hard for road use!
Happy days.

Back in the day of course the works Manta 400 rally cars were quick and exciting. My hero was Jimmy McRae in the AC Delta car - he was the usual favourite on the Manx and Circuit of Ireland. The Manta could beat a quattro on tarmac events - but they had to try hard!
There is also that classic in car Manx footage of Vatanen clipping a dry stone wall, getting it straight quickly enough to get it through a gated cattle grid. I'm on my phone posting this but will up it off YouTube.

I had a GTE and replaced the standard Bilsteins with the ones for the Chevette 2300HS - nice compromise for road use with some uprated springsHappy days.
