For the long distance jaunt, I'd pick the LS - fantastic on the motorway and about town.
You seem to be near me so I've had a little look at some others:

Love the Merc! Possibly too much over budget though. You seem to be near me so I've had a little look at some others:

I think I'll add the Audi and Jag to the list of possibles and draw up a map/route for going to look at cars over the weekend. I'm actually tempted just to buy the LS even if I don't need it!
Thanks

Do I need a membership card of some sort to buy tyres from Costco? Looks like the M3 will need a set imminently...
I think so. I still haven't completed mine even though it's sat in the bottom of my bag for the last 6 months. How much is a set of boots for the M3?Is there any way of working out which Costco branches fit tyres? Their website is rubbish...

Would it be bad form to suggest I have a fully sorted E38 for sale under your budget?!
No, adverts are perfectly acceptable now, see here:Garlick said:

Is that for OEM spec replacements or just anything decent in that size?
Are your E92 tyres bigger/wider than the 19" option on the E46?
have you tried www.event.co.uk ?

Get my recommendation as well, and solve all the hassle of fitting: kick back in your favourite chair with a beverage of choice and watch them work on your car at home/work/location of your choice.

Sorry for the advert. I am in the Sin Bin
Twas in jest.
I do think we need to relax the advertising rules a little. Posting a link to your own car should be fine in a relevant thread (ie, HR should be able to link his car in threads where people want a economic barge at under £2000 for example)
Obviously, randoms signing up to plug there classified should be culled
