I wasn't asking for anyone, just hoping someone else would think twice. Must be great to have a fast track to Sainthood.
I'm not a saint and don't proport to be one either, I wish you well in getting your life on track, just stating I've seen a million people like you, all the same.Trouble is for everyone of you who gets away with it there are plenty of people who don't and wreck lives and then someone has to clear that mess up....

Certainly not. I was just thinking the other day about how everyone worries about how long the ban woul be (I did) without realising how much else can happen too.
Fair enough, you're certainly right, it's instant dismissal from many, if not most, jobs and that certainly has a hell of a knock on effectRemyMartin said:

I'm taking a punt that this is part of a drink driving campagne
Not buying
Man joins a car forum not for advice, or for his passion for cars; but to give a heart-wrenching story enough to make even the most hardcore "I've only had 9, I'm fine mate..." think twice. Not buying
Strikes me as unusual too....
BUT...
I do agree with the sentiment. Not going to lie I did get into bad habits of having a few too many. Never long journeys but still, wrong all the same.
Luckily nothing bad ever happened but I was pulled pulling out of the pub car park (was moving it literally accross a roundabout into a public car park) and brethalysed having had a few over the course of lunch and a football game. I passed but for those 5 minutes, I was stting it...
Haven't had more than a lager top since...

No sympathy im afraid. Most of us have crashed a car, lost a woman and a job at some point in our lives for one reason or another but if it happens through driving whilst pissed you totally deserve it.
One of my immediate family members lost their life in a most horrific way at a young age because of a prick like you who thought they could drive home after a drink and you think you're suffering??
Youve no fking idea how easy youve got off pal.
Very logical conclusion, not filled with emotion at all.One of my immediate family members lost their life in a most horrific way at a young age because of a prick like you who thought they could drive home after a drink and you think you're suffering??

Calm the fk down, he wasn't responsible for your loss.
I've only ever had more than one pint and drove home in my life and I've been driving since 1992. I was a teenager and had a pint and a mate of a mate came in and bought me one without me realising. I didn't have the strenght of character to say no so I had 2 pints in the space of an hour and drove home. I felt so guilty despite not being abnywhere near drunk but just the knowledge that if I got pulled, I'd probably be slightly over. Not done it since.
You've paid a harsh penalty for your sins. There are many who will no doubt say you got what you deserved but we've all made mistakes and done things (a lot worse in some cases).
The important thing is you learn from it and if you've had a pint, either stop there or make arrangements for a lift/taxi.

Interesting thing, drink driving...
On the one hand, it's obviously going to increase your chance of crashing.
On the other, your chance per mile driven of crashing while at double the legal alcohol limit is only about 50% higher than when sober, so someone who drives 20 miles for their own pleasure when sober is putting others at more risk for their personal gratification than someone who drinks to twice the legal limit then drives ten miles. Is there a difference between two people from a moral standpoint? I don't see one.
Ultimately, if you want to be completely safe, don't touch a car. Or probably best, don't get out of bed.

It doesn't read 'right', it reads like the typical attention seeking made up dribble of troll or attention we or some nutter anti-drink campaigner.
Just what I thought, the whole thing reads very strangely and sounds just like a drink drive campaign post.It doesn't read 'right', it reads like the typical attention seeking made up dribble of troll or attention we or some nutter anti-drink campaigner.
Anyway, my last housemate's closet friend lived down in rural Somerset and had got a bit too used to drinking and driving home (nearest pub being a fair few miles away). He'd been warned about it a few times, once by the police, and was by all accounts a lovely chap otherwise but he simply liked the convenience of being able to drive back after "a few".
Anyway, couple of years ago he drove the few miles home he went to turn right across the road and failed to see the biker coming towards him. He hit and killed the biker, think it was a local chap and father, and went to prison. He was about 22/23 I guess and now faces 8 years in prison, my friend visits him fairly regularly and always comes back slightly miserable. My friend was the most outgoing, jolly and law-abiding person I know and it was very odd to think of his closet friend being in prison for such a horrible and tragic thing.
So OPs post makes sense and is a good message, drive safe folks
pretty clear the OP's not looking for sympathy
also pretty clear he's posting this as a warning to others so they don't follow his mistakes
some people's responses on here annoy me, the guy seems repentent for his actions and trying to ensure that no-one else is as stupid (his words) as him. Calling him names and having a go I could understand if the Original Post wasn't as clear as it is..... or am I missing something???

OP, you have my sympathies but I can't get my head around why you would go blasting off when you've had a few drinks. If I were to have one too many then drive (and I'm not saying I do, though I'll admit to some poor decisions in the past) I'd drive as inconspicuously as I possibly could so as not to draw attention to myself.
So either you were drunk to the point where your decision making abilities were severely impaired (which means you had more to drink than your post implies) or you're a bit daft (to put it kindly).

After reading this I'm very
So you messed up big time - I despise drink drivers as much as the next man, so no point in going there.
What surprises me is that you lost everything...
Sure your Dad will be very angry and have some stern words, but he should always stand by you.
I'm guessing your job involved driving, otherwise there is no reason for them to sack you.
As for your wife - as with Dad here, but she really should have been there for you.
Were you going through a bit of a rough patch in your life perhaps?
