I think 1 bar would be more likely for that kind of power level.

You would think that a car jounralist would actually learn something about cars, I mean it is there job.

Rather than giving false information out for others to then spout out as gospel.

Already decided this will be next car, albeit in 2 years when I'll probably buy a year old one. Would love it in red, full fat version with cup chassis, Recaros and Renaultsport Monitor. Great car and a lot for the money, when you consider it's a better drive than a Golf R which is 35k+ once you start picking options. Never got to test drive one last month as I had too much points on my license :-(

I've got to agree, £24-26,000 for a Megane. Maybe I'm just tight and stuck in the past but way too dear for me new.
Drive one, and you might change your mind.

Just finished a glorious test week on the old 250. The way it puts power down is quite reminiscent of Evo's/Scooby's of old.

As I've said before, one with the Cup Chassis, Recaros and the RS Monitor (So you can put the throttle response in Extreme mode) is one of the best driving experiences I've had.

I'm contemplating one as my 25k miles/yr car (Recaros & Cup pack wink )
It will probably be a 1 year old 250 though as they are going to ~£18k!
Two questions for those that have driven/own them;
1) Is the build & material quality still bad? (My old 19 16V was bad frown )
2) Is 15 BHP and a few more torques really going to make a difference? (I'd probably remap it anyway wink )

No, build quality is vastly improved and quality of materials is very good.

No, you wouldn't notice it, especially as you need to actually flock into sport mode for the extra power. They are ridiculously quick when remapped!

Good to hear
I loved to character of my old 19 16V all those years ago and the 250/265 with the Cup pack seems to be the current "generation"
I think it would make a more interesting alternative to a Golf or Roc R (not to mention alot cheaper laugh )

I have a 250, love it to death, always on hoons around the south east/ thames valley area, its so much fun! i have oyster grey, full fat (leather, auto lights/wipers, completely keyless entry, darker tints) recaros, cup chassis, 19's, drl's and the monitor. Love it!
Much improved over the 225/r26 phase etc- i had a 225 cup before, which was excellent anyway.
Its depreciated faster than an aston dbs but i knew that, there was nothing even close for the money new, that could carry a dog, 5 people, look nice and hoonable. This is my first and only new car, just wanted the experience while i'm young! After 3-4 years it stablises anyway to about 12k prob!
Got a pic on my profile, some may recognise it from the Sunday services!
Matt

Here we are-

Me just overtaking a Clio Cup...haha yeah right!

This was at Brands, a Renaultsport trackday the same as Spa mentioned in the article, fantastic day with great time on track. Full day £149, £10 tuition, £10 helmet hire, free drive of the other RS's- twingo and clio! Almost no queing, infact straight after lunch i had 5-6 laps with prob only 2 cars on track it was brilliant!

I read in a few places the 250 was putting out 260-270hp on dynos in standard trim so I doubt you would feel short changed with a 250 over 265. I would love to drive one as all the reviews love them. My only concerns are reliability (and trim rattles etc) and the exterior styling. I think it looks ok in the right colur but some angles aren't the best. One question to those who have driven both, is the standard 250 ride much more forgiving than the cup version? Some reviews state the cup is quite harsh on our roads?

Looks like a fantastic upgrade for me. I've been considering one for a while. I currently have the R26. Which I think is an amazing car with 230bhp, let alone 265.

For me though, I would have to have it in the 'definitive' RenaultSport Liquid Yellow colour...

You need to buy one of the 265 Trophys then.

Another question for owners - one complaint in reviews (particularly for the 250) is the engine is too quiet/refined for a hot hatch. Call me a chav but I do like a bit of aural drama/induction/exhaust/turbo whistle noise etc., so can these be brought out with a few mods? Or does the turbo mute things too much?

Dear, dear, look at that dumpy side profile. How anyone can say that is good-looking, completely eludes me. Usual "modern" slab sides and tiny glass area so no thank you.

In what way does that make this a bad car? It could look like ste but still provide an amazing experience?

Do you have a new mini on order?

"And so we arrive at Folkestone with enough adrenaline flowing through our bloodstream to make the sniffer dogs twitch." laugh

I have always got time for the Renaultsport Megane, great car for the money, and with a remap will easy get 300Bhp, which is fun.

Just quoting the official figures from renaultsport. The same figures that were quoted for the 265 trophy:

"Compared to the previous model, the Renaultsport 265 boasts improved performance statistics, dispatching 0- 62mph in six seconds exactly (instead of 6.1), w ith a top speed of 158 mph, up by an extra 2 mph. In everyday driving, its 360Nm is usefully available across a broad rev band betw een 3,000 and 5,000rpm. Its impressive pow er-to-w eight ratio is also a hefty 191hp per tonne.
To achieve these gains, Renaultsport’s w izardry has seen the engine’s maximum turbo pressure uprated to 2.5 bar, up by 0.2, together w ith the air intake being revised to take account of the higher pressure and running temperatures."

In the week I had one, I experienced nothing in regard to rattles or creaks. Feels like a quality product, but I will say that the press car had needed new tyres and brakes after ~12500 miles as well as having developed an annoying knock from the front suspension.

Had a 265 for two weeks now and I have to say its an amazing drive.

Re. Suspension is pretty stiff but not as bad as some reports IMO
I had a Citroen C2 VTS before though which was pretty stiff so maybe I am acclimatised

Re. Extra 15bhp. Have to say the difference is very noticeable when you switch on the sport mode

Re the actual power, Renault boss in Australia reported in the oz press recently that the 250 has 20 - 30bhp more than the stated 250 and that Renault deliberately understate power output.
