As a current ST3 owner I'll be going in to try one out but the dashboard is a little bit fussy for my tastes so that might have to grow on me first if I'm to commit.

Popped into a Ford dealer this morning and asked:

a) When are you expecting a new ST in the showroom? (Answer - "Don't know. Months. Might not be getting one at all")

and

b) When will you have brochures for the new ST and/or expect the Ford online 'Configure your vehicle' to be available? (Answer - "Don't know, better to download the brochure online, and don't know when the online configure tool will be updated")

Handy!
This is why you get a good deal at a Ford dealer... They don't wear slick suits like at some of their German counterparts, and do not talk with teh same level of product knowledge (in many cases) but if you can suffer the occasional "blank" look you can normally get a deal to be happy with. Funny enough my wife recently went for a 1.0 Ecotec 5 door Focus and it is a lovely car; super refined, great handling and comfortable. If the ST maintains the same level with the bigger engine it will be very desirable.

Yea, but come on - if the PH article is to be believed the cars are 'hitting the dealers in June' so if this is indeed correct the 1st deliveries are a maximum of 4 weeks away and the salesman in this particular instance (despite having to go away and ask his manager answers to the 2 questions I asked) doesn't have ANY product knowledge, delivery timescales etc?

If I were to put an order in for a new ST I would want to know I was choosing the correct spec, colour, interior trim, options etc which is why a brochure and/or an update of the online config tool would be handy. Especially with a model that is apparently 4 weeks away!

Finding a decent dealer is always a problem for any marque. I had exactly this problem when I wanted to get more info on the RS 3.5yrs or so ago, none of the local outfits seemed to know anything or cared to find out frown

One tip for anyone looking into an ST: have a look for your nearest Ford dealer with Mountune Pro status. These guys will always be a cut above the more mainstream dealers who only shift more run of the mill models.

Job #1 28th May 2012
Full production 18th June 2012
Gate release of launch stock from 2nd July
Customer ordered cars built from August onwards

This means that the launch cars will start filtering through to dealers in mid July. These cars will be built to Ford's specification though (see below) so if you want something more specific then these will be built in August onwards for delivery in September.

More details on the above link.

The pricing will have to get a lot lower than that to make this ugly lump seem attractive. hurl

Throw it back into the sea.

Based on what the regular Focus weighs, this car will still be too heavy!!

ALl these so called "medium to small" hatches need to go on a big diet now! 1400KG for a hot hatch is ridiculous. The Chevy Cruze tested in this weeks autocar clocked 1470KGs for crying out loud, thats heavier than the old Volvo 850 T5 estate was...

In fact Im not sure any of these golf/focus type cars are genuine hot hatches any more....for an old school hot hatch, you need nothing more than a little Suzuki Swift Sport...

FYI

this will not come in 3 doors!!

shame, they will lose quite a few buyers for it
You know what I had both a 3dr and 5dr ST2 and the 5 door always looked better. Very odd as normally I'd agree 3drs look better and are a bit more rigid. On the 3dr ST the doors were freakin hugh and weighted a ton.

You go for any other options markoc?

I am thinking about going for an ST3 5-door in red, white or tangerine scream with the Style pack, privacy glass and power-tilt sunroof.

At work there's a Tangerine one that I see every few days. It looks bloody fantastic in that colour smile

Take it you work for Ford? If so then I suppose you won't be allowed to take any pics?
