Looks quite nice, love the colour, but too expensive imo. Theres better options to spunk 40k on, M3s, C63 etc etc. If I was going to spend it on a Subaru though, I'd buy the daddy of all Imprezas, the 22B

But fxuking hell, the s201s were ugly as shiit.
the RB: one of the only cars I just don't 'get'

so expensive and so anonymous like all the other limited edition Subarii

This is a car that interests me, I have never had a subaru and am probably in the target market for it.

I like the fact it is (relatively!) bland in appearance, has niche appeal etc.

I love the fact that it could give much more epxensive cars a run for the money as well.

The main problem I've got is the government taking the piss. As far as I am concerned great cars like this are taxed out of my reach.

The upfront cost I can get my head round-decades of 4WD know-how have gone in to it, the running costs I can live with (you are going to need top quality everything) but 20% spunked away in to the government's coffers just to buy it in the first place, £450+ road tax (oh sorry I mean VED...there's no such thing as 'road tax'...riiiight), double-dipping the duty on fuel (you tax me 50% when I earn, add a duty and VAT when I buy it so to put £50 in my tank I've had to earn well over £100) means that unfortunately ahm oot.

shame as this looks right up my street. sorry to hijack this in to a general 'tax' moan.

yeah, i was about to say the same thing. i've been considering an Impreza as a new motor for a while, and each time i look i get priced out of various ones due to stupid insurance quotes and road tax.
i worked out i could just about afford to buy and fuel one on the basis only minor things will need fixing/replacing ( yeah i'm settign myself up for a fall wink )

the Impreza has always been more appealing to me than an Evo. imho the Impreza styling looks just that bit better, tho the Evo's 4-6 were lookers too, and the evo 7-9 are just dull, its like Mitsubishi gave up on it from the 7.
Dont mind the EvoX either, but given the choice i'd have the Saloon Impreza over it.

No doubt its a great spec Suburu but plastic fantastic interior and the £40k price tag all considered I'd much rather drive a supercharged 330 e46 any day of the week. But hey i havent had a mid-life crisis yet and i still have some hair left albeit lots of grey hair smile

interesting reading this thread;
I'm in a fortunate position;
my other half has an STi scoob
I have a 911 (GT3), a KN and a '76 late bay 'van
also have a 997 Cup Car

they are all totally different, but all put a smile on my face for different reasons!

Would I splurge 40K on this ?
probably not;
but then again it is a rare car - if you are into your scoob's I'd suggest it would be a real hoon.
and for the record, I don't see that many being razzed around estates - it seems that they are now driven by the more 'mature' driver...!

Why are there so many posts on this thread saying i would rather spend 40k on a BMW, Posrche, Fast Merc, GTR etc The only similarity is the price, anyone looking at this Imprezza will have little to no interest in any of the above, this is a Ltd numbers, 4x4 rally rep that is silly quick and there in lies the interest, not some mass produced see 100's on a daily basis!

Sure there is plenty of quick cars if you want to spend 40k, but not if this kind of thing is your bag, as others have mentioned, your only alternatives are other variants or some form of Evo!

performance wise it sounds exceptional (especially for the money), I just wish they had done a bit more with the styling, even the alloys look so bland and dated.

I think the problem is, you can get far more "perceived quality" for your money.

I'm an Impreza driver, I love mine, but a huge part fo the appeal is their bang for buck. Start charging £40k, and you really are backing into a niche corner of an already niche market.

Ask £20k and I'd say it's bargain of the century. At £40k my money would be going any number of other ways.

You can get 90% of the Impreza thrill for £2k these days. Is this car worth 20 of them?

Such a good point!

Sure there are some hardcore enthusiasts, but looking at my current car vs. my old STi... Would I spend more than 20K on a scooby, not a chance wink

Depends on your idea of "perceived quality" .....?
If you can prove to me that you can get 90% of the thrill this car has to offer for £2k you can have her! smile

My car history:
Evo 7,8,9 and X RS with 400bhp
Imprea Spec C Type Ra, Spec c Type RA-R, S204 and R205
S3, RS4
E92 M3
CLS 63 AMG
R35 GTR
R8
997 TURBO gen1

One way or another I always find myself back in a Impreza as no other car including the ones above offer the same sort of driving experience. The only thing that comes close is the Evo which is very similar.
Yes you have the likes of an overweight GTR that does everything for you which can be had for 40k, but wheres the fun in that?
The reason I bought this car was for the raw feel of driver and car and not sh't loads of electronic diffs in between.

I would imagine the majority of people who have commented negatively have never driven an S or R edition impreza if you had then you would understand why these cars are that every bit special and worth every penny! smile

Getting it out in the open, I've had a 22B for the last 4 and a half years now, and I love it. Its my 4th impreza, and will not be my last. Yes, I'm a die hard fan.

I dont like this car.

Why? Because its not collectable, yet its asking a collectable price. This type of car is "just another" in a long string, and there will be more of the same, just wait.

In addition to this, I prefer the older subarus. They were lighter, and mod for mod, will keep up with new, heavier cars.

The benefit though, is that the older cars cost a lot less.

Yes, my "old" car was expensive, but I bought it specifically because it was a 22B (limited edition, blah blah blah). I've also owned normal old sti's, and frankly, if I were back in the market for this again, I'd probably look at a classic Type R with some work done (maybe £5k all up), and save myself £35k to spend elsewhere.

At £40k, I'd buy a 360. Only because I'm Italian, and I have always wanted a Ferrari. No way would I spend that amount on a normal impreza.

I always thought the same about the 22B 40k and you didn't get much more performance than a type r 40k back in 1998 would probably be the equivalent of £80k now days. wink (I remember being 13 and wishing I could drive when it come out)

The only thing that makes the 22b appealing is the the WRC heritage that comes with it. However with it being a 2.2 block it doesn't share anything with the actual rally car other than ascetics.

Given that I would have a 22B .....why because I like all things Subaru.

How do you get to that assumption?
design, quality of finish, racing pedigree, badge kudos, all vastly superior on the 911 over the GTR

sure its not as fast but who cares, well small dicked people who like to brag in pubs, but apart from them

Dave, looking at your previous marques (impressive by the way)would you not miss the rough edges of these motors and their character if you had a 911?

Looks like dave has worked his way up the social ladder hence preferring the 911 biggrin

S3 is a great motor by the way!!

That's another thing I love about the Impreza it reminds me of a time when I couldn't afford the likes of R8's and 911's.........you could say it brings you back down to earth.
