I think you would have to be sniffing petrol for real to find any of the content on that site amusing, it's just not funny at all
Really? You've read the whole site going back to 2001 have you? It started out consistently brilliant and, although a little hit & miss these days, is still very good.
Really??

A little futher down from the Danny B story (which i found not funny at all) i stumbled accross this.

"Crazy Daves"

Maybe i'm just getting old and out of touch these days, so serious question do people find this this stuff really funny??

Och aye tha noo muthafukas! Crazy Dave comin’ atcha from the Monaco Gee to tha Pee. Conveniently close to ma apartment. Yea. Desirable postcodizzle.

So Thursday we slide on over Monte Carlo side but then Friday there ain’t no track action cuz F1 be gettin’ busy wit’ tha partay. Crazy D, sippin’ down Cristal. Difficult to get through BBC expensizzles.

Come tha three stage sprint ‘n’ pit who this be slammin’ it on tha ones but ma old homie Mickey Schu. Where that cat get so fast from again, huh? Thing is, tha Mickster, he be carryin’ a penalty from tha las’ race where he be had a senior moment and that be droppin’ him to tha six leaving ma brother M. Web parkin’ it on tha primo spot. Psychologically importantizzle.

Come tha five an’ bye, tha Webmaster be away faster than Crazy D when he hear about a tighty whitey jeans sale. Tings ain’t so gravy fo’ ma old buddy Mickey Schu though cuz that brother be bangin’ and a bhin’ and eventually he retire. Like he should o’ done befo’ tha start of this season! Yea, Crazy D made a funny. It also jus’ ain’t workin’ out fo’ ma boy P. Maldiddy neither. Fo’ erratic performancizzle.

Up tha pointy end, it be lookin’ sweet fo’ ma buddy Nicky Ro cuz that boyband bh be holdin’ it on tha twos and who this be on he’s tail but ma brethren Nando. Man that dude be extractin’ performance from tha ‘Rarri. In your face, ongoing technical issues that need to be resolvizzled.

Come tha three step pop ‘n’ prince, it be Webbo on tha ones wit’ NiRo and Nando on tha twos an’ threes. Nuff respec’ to ma homie P. diddy Resta who be bringin’ it home on tha seven slot. The power of porridgizzle.

And remember, we won’t be broadcasting live from the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday 10 June but we will have a comprehensive highlights programme starting at 10:30pm only on BBC One and the BBC HD channel.""

So Aslam is English educated in Bath,England with an English wife and he's an English citizen who likes English breakfast tea and everyday has a full English breakfast every morning and plays regularly with his dog, an English sheepdog. It should be known that he stood and sang the full national anthem at the jubilee and likes nothing better than an episode of Benny hill or Monty python.

:P

Yeah I thought that odd too, unless Aslam normally lives in Malaysia and worked for Proton or something, and to give the public confidence, Lotus is trying to play up his Englishness.

This news has literally made my week! Bahar was corrupting Lotus because he has no idea what the true value of a 'brand' is.

Good riddance.

Onwards and upwards.

Onwards and upwards!

After watching Harry Metcalfe's "Evo Diary" on the Lotus Elan recently I'm smitten on an Elan +2. Beautiful engineering simplicity. Maybe current Lotus could make an unconventional extruded aluminum/glued/plastic sexy looking Fiat 500/Smart car and share with Tesla.

GAGA knows what he's talking about.

...when I first read that he was late for an interview in London because his helicopter was grounded I thought that this could spell trouble, Lotus simply don't have that sort of cash to be waiting on helicopters from Norwich to London (it's a pleasant drive, turn up in a classic élan and people will love you) and it you are prepared to waste money like that it never bodes well for other aspects of the business. I disagreed with the 5 model strategy, but having set the company on this course I was really interested to see if he could pull it off, as in business, some people are brilliant at what they do and was Bahar one of those people?

I read somewhere that he was recently flying every week to Malaysia to try and convince the new owners of his "master plan". When I was at Hethel, someone discussed that the motorsport center was kitted out with Italian designer furniture at his request which looked nice but was incredibly expensive and not durable enough to be in constant use by Joe Public, Racing Driver.
Small things but they give the impression of someone who was not cost conscious and not acting like an owner / entrepreneur would. Other people's money and all that.
I think it is best that he has gone. It would be interesting to know how much work has been done on the Esprit or any of the other cars. Time will tell.
I really hope Lotus can recover from this.

Oh do give it a rest. Just because SniffPetrol doesn't appeal to your sense of humour (or lack of one) doesn't give you the right to brand an entire site that has been running for 11 years as "rubbish". It just means that you don't like it. Move along, nothing to see here, thousands of other websites that might appeal to you.
It's like watching an episode of the Fast Show and saying 'what's so funny about a TV presenter who can't stop coughing?'. It's a running gag, that's all.

Anyway, back on topic...

it's worse than that, the team is called LOTUS now, and it would be dam near impossible to get them to change it now (even if they wanted to).

effectively, they have got the rights to the name for zero cost.

Just another part of the legacy of Danny-boy...
Or Lotus got some fantastic advertising for zero cost.

that's an interesting point, I wonder how all the Jurno's that were fawning all over Dannyboy will play it?

after their comments to date, some of them already look pretty stupid.

Forgetting the the rather horrible very recent past for a moment - isn't this the perfect chance to promote a rather talented engineer 'in the field' and at the same time give him his dream job and us the chance to wonder at what he can do?

Step forward Mr Gordon Murray!

ALL WRONG: Lotus has no new CEO!!! Aslam Farikullah, is announced as new COO!
CEO and COO is not the same, just to point that out. I have no interest in education most people here, but it had to be said!

Also, Lotus would be allready history without Dany Bahar. You can not run a business anymore, by selling hardcore lightweight cars, as great as they are, these days are over. Lotus needed and NEEDS a visionary like Bahar! Just look at the impact, the new Exige S had allready made, this is Bahars (and his Team's) child. So stop telling the same BS again and again, that Lotus has to stick to his lightweight pilosophy, it was right years ago, but times chanche, markets chanche and Lotus has to chanche as well!!

I was and always and will be always a Lotus fan, but its a sad story what happend here. How can anyone belive, that DRB Hicom has any serious interest in Lotus????

Is it the air in Norfolk? Always seem to keep the surprises coming.
Given where the new bloke is from perhaps DB was trying to get further away from Proton in terms of product and involvement.
Cannot see why Proton would want Lotus if it was not simply because of their engineering skills. Otherwise I cannot see why it is a good investment.

DB seemed to provide Lotus with a vision and long-term plan.

Lotus the nearly company, hope that changes in the future, with its new "English" COO. Presumably if he is English then the term Operations Director would be fitting.

Mr. Bahar had to go if the helicopters, house renovation, cars on standby & loaned to friends etc are true. Lotus is not big enough to carry that level of largesse or indeed of misuse. Please let Lotus go back to engineering led excellence, coupled with a much better understanding of what makes people buy sports cars. IMHO beauty, reliability, + Lotus handling would help Lotus be more successful at selling their cars. The new proposed Evora nose is a start, but who approved the side glass treatment and overall styling?
The new models on the drawing board look much better but realistically the game has moved on. The new Porsche Boxster and Jaguar F-Type is the segment Lotus should look at NOT any higher until the company starts making large profits. As for the future if it's not with DRB then a merger with CPP or Aston Martin would be preferable to closure as I don't think Caterham will be rich enough to buy if indeed DRB sell.

So within 10 days Lotus has investigated Bahar's shenanigans, passed sentence, dismissed him, interviewed and appointed a replacement, who just happened to be available to start immediately, without 1 months notice to his old employer.
wink

Sounds like wheels were in motion and his fate was sealed long before the investigation was made public.
I couldnt agree more. Usually when CEO's break the rules they are put on full paid Garden Leave for 6 to 9 months whilst the investigation takes place, and then they are dismissed with a big fat golden handshake. This guy has been axed in what would be considered a very short time for an average memebr of the shop floor work force, let alone a member of the board.

He either did something serverly wrong (and obvious), or this is just the tip of iceberg of his downfall.

+1

How anyone can't find the 'Ferrari offers Williams their unwanted equipment' picture both clever and amusing beats me...perhaps Peter prefers the more obvious humour of 'love thy neighbour'?

Now...to Bahar....thing is, if DRB was ever looking for a cast iron excuse to dump Lotus...an excuse that was acceptable to the politicians too...an excuse that showed it had tried its level best to make things work....wouldn't one that went 'we dumped the profligate CEO, went back to our engineering roots, but he reckons it'd cost £500m to get us back n track and quite frankly we don't have that kind of cash...so unless you do, we can't see any other option than to close the company'

Then BMW will buy Lotus cars and 'do a MINI' on it. As part of the deal, DRB keeps Lotus Engineering, the politicians get to save face and all's well...
