The Supercar Event - Dunsfold 23-24/06/12

PHers can claim a special ticket price for this new weekend event

Now in its 4th year, the event formerly known as ‘Dads' Day Out’ has evolved into a two-day supercar weekend called The Supercar Event to be held at Dunsfold Park on 23rd and 24th of June.

Even though the name has changed, the unique part of the event remains and you will be able to sign up for fast passenger rides in a whole host of supercars and sports cars as the owners show you what they can do around the famous Top Gear test track.

Since our last article, three new activities have been added to make the event even better

  • Skid control

Driving Dynamics will be on site on both days to provide skid training throughout the weekend. Their car does not operate on a cradle, nor does it require any special surface as all four wheels on the vehicle are controlled by the instructor to allow for a realistic experience.

They are able to demonstrate all types of skid as well as aquaplaning and use of ABS and sessions can be to be tailored to each individual

  • 3D photography

A 3D car photography service will be available using special photographic kit to capture your car in 3D and you don't need any special glasses to view.

Prices start from only £29.50 and you can also buy a digital copy of the 3D photo to show on your 3D TV, smartphone or tablet. If you are heading to the event and want to book a picture, please email William@illuminessence.co.uk or jon@mitton3d.com to book

  • Autosolo

Autosolo has a series of timed courses taking place on hard surfaces with routes that are easier to follow than in traditional autotesting. You don’t need to have experience of specialist techniques such as spin turns as all tests are equally enjoyable for novices and experienced competitors

This video gives a taste of what you can expect this year:

Often when you go to a supercar event you find yourself looking at static and silent supercars from behind a fence. Here you get to hear them, smell them and watch them being used as the manufacturer intended, even if you don’t want to passenger, and it’s this element that makes The Supercar Event special.

In addition to the supercar runs you can enjoy a host of other events including:

  • Caterham drift experiences - £15
  • Supercar rides iincluding Pagani Zonda, Ferrari Enzo, McLaren MP4-12C, Koenigsegg Agera, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari 275 and Lexus LFA– starting at £25
  • Autosolo – put your own car to the test for just £10
  • Helicopter rides over the entire event for £35
  • Hovercraft rides
  • Young driver training – take your first driving lesson here

There will also be a host of trade stands from car-related companies, car dealers and manufacturers. In addition there is plenty for kids to do, ranging from bus rides to face painting, and you can also enjoy a wide range of food outlets and live music.

Also new for 2012 is the addition of eight zones catering for all manner of car enthusiasts, while keeping the intimate feeling you expect at a car event.

The eight zones are as follows:

  • Supercar zone
  • Kids zone
  • Interactive zone
  • Entertainment/Catering zone
  • Classic zone
  • Manufacturers/Dealers zone
  • Modified zone
  • Motorsport zone

Tickets are priced at £10 per day for one adult or £25 for a daily family ticket. Weekend tickets are available at £15 per person or £35 for the family.

However, PistonHeads readers can take advantage of a special discounted ticket, giving you a weekend car ticket for just £10. This ticket allows entry for all occupants too, so basically you are paying £5 per day for as many people as your car will carry. For a weekend event, that’s great value and remember every penny raised goes directly to The Children's Trust.

The reduced ticket prices allows you to display your car as part of the large static display of sports and classic cars on both days of the event. It also allows all passengers in the car free entry to the event throughout the weekend.
Does one have to do that?? I think the family car would look a bit out of place confused

I was quite excited by this, then I google mapped Dunsfold. The last couple of shows I've been excited about are south of London and I can't justify travelling that far! mad

Bugger, would haver loved to do this but I'm working both the 23rd and 24th and although I finish at 12 both days a nearly 4 hour drive down makes it pointless for me to try frown

It's Surrey, not Outer Mongolia. Book a B&B and live a little wink

Exactly what I was going to ask.

My Mondeo might be passable as 'Rosso', but that's where anything Scuderia-esque ends.

Thank you kindly... Thanks for putting this up ph!

It never fails to humble me that so many supercar owners have been willing to donate their time, fuel & stunning motor cars for the benefit of the children and young people that we work with. Heros one and all!

Yup, The Children's Trust is indeed an awesome charity that I am lucky to have the great pleasure of working for. I head up a department which is entirely funded by charitable donations- so I have firsthand experience of the difference that this makes to the services that we are able to provide.(If anyone wants to know more about the work we do or how the money we raise makes a difference then I'm happy to answer questions.)

I was with the children & young people yesterday, and it's pretty clear that we have some rather big petrol heads in our care at the moment who are looking forward down to play cars with everyone on the weekend driving ! Hopefully see you there!

I'm happy to keep posting so this stays up there...

I run/race for the children's trust, paid them a visit with my kids not long ago. Seeing the work that they do first hand is on a totally different level than reading about it in the web.

Keep up the good work!

What are the chances of getting Richard Hammond down?

Hi guys, thought I’d give you a heads up regarding the AutoSolo taster which will be at the supercar event this year.

I’m going be helping my local car club – Farnborough District Motor Club who are running the taster session on both Saturday and Sunday and being a fully fledged PH member as well I thought I’d let you all know that I’d be there.

For those who have never come across an autosolo before here’s a general overview:

‘An autosolo has a series of timed, all forward courses, on hard surfaces. The routes are made as easy as possible, so you can concentrate on achieving your fastest time, rather than remembering the way. Compared to traditional autotesting, the tests don’t involve specialist techniques such as spin turns, are significantly longer and can involve a little more speed through corners. It’s a relatively new form of low cost, non specialist motor sport for the UK, using road going cars and equally enjoyable for novices and experienced competitors.’

To give you a brief round up of my autosolo experience; I’ve been competing this year (my first year) in a couple of autosolos via FDMC which are held throughout the Surrey and Hampshire area, all in the clio 172 cup, with my best result being 2nd in class and 14th overall (out of 47) which I was quite pleased with. First impressions of ‘soloing is that its all about ‘technical’ car control rather than flat out speed. Not only this but the knowledge gained of how your car responds is priceless, not many places where you can try to improve driving abilities in a controlled environment, with the worst case scenario being taking a cone out. And of course there’s the competitive side of things which changes the whole experience for the better if you ask me.

So if you want to put your money where your mouth is then feel free to swing by and have a go or even if you want to have a chat feel free to come over. I’ll be there in the blue clio cup, I should have a few smilies on it by then as well. I will be using my car as a demonstrator along with a few other members so come and watch if you like! (I know it doesn’t quite have the same allure as a Zonda or F40 et al honing around the TG test track but we’re only a couple of minutes away).

Last year saw new members signing up to the motor club, one in particular drives his Chimera at most ‘solos which is a joy to watch and hear! :-D

Should you have any queries please let me know.

Hopefully see you there, Alan.

I'll be drifting about in the Caterham area (red with Carbon nose and race numbers), feel free to come and say hi or come out for a ride wavey .

Is there anywhere to warm up the car, or just head straight out? Also, do we have to queue for 14hours or do we go through a different entrance?

also thinking about i'm now going to assume, based on that and the apparent fatness of rear rubber that it's some kind of widebody kit applied to a 355.

i know talking to yourself is the first sign of madness silly
