I drive all the time for work, and without question the roads are not quite as busy and people are driving slower. 80 is the new 90 on the motorway. Couple this with more fuel efficient cars and then demand drops...
Sure didnt look like that on saturday night - A303/M3 was running at 80mph in the slow lane, with people blasting past at 100+... Of course, that was when there were other cars to observe... Never driven from the Mere bypass to Winterbourne Stoke without seeing aother sole before.. I agree though that prices do affect how people drive - it was the same back a couple of years ago when prices spiked, everyone started hypermiling on the motorways for a while but when prices dropped back down everyone picked up the pace again.

'll agree with that. I trundle along the dual carriageway at 60 with the lorries on the way to work now.
Though funny enough, I seem to drive a lot faster when heading home!
HaHa! I do the same. I limit myself to 65mph on the dual carridge ways and 70 on the motorways. Cruise control helps a lot. Though funny enough, I seem to drive a lot faster when heading home!
I do drive a bit quicker on the way home though, but not by much!
With the warmer weather, I have managed to get 48mpg from the Saab. Don't think I will be able to get much more out of it unless I drop to 60mph everywhere.

Why would they not vary the price depending on your location? It will cost a different amount to get fuel to different areas of the country and it doesn't make sense to make everyone else share the cost of this.
It's little to do with location. Rugby is very close to the M1, M6, A14, A45 etc and petrol is consistently 3-5p dearer than in Leamington Spa only 11 or so miles away. It's more like blatent price-fixing by the supermarkets, charging what the few remaining local other petrol stations are charging.
I am not saying I am happy about it but it is the way it goes. The only real blame for the high cost of fuel should be aimed at the duty - the others elements are smaller and more difficult to change.

I think it's about 58p fuel duty plus vat. So about 70p tax on a 1p litre.
It would be VAT on the whole petrol + duty price, so around 22p of it in which case you would get 80p taxation. At least they don't do VAT on VAT, yet Edited by Dr Jekyll on Thursday 14th June 15:11

At 19:00 tonight, will you...
A) Watch Match of the Day Live: Euro 2012 Sweden v England - a bunch of overpaid, egotistical ponces writhe round after tripping over daisies?
B) go for a drive on the deserted roads?
I'd rather watch paint dry than watch football, so I'll go for a drive.A) Watch Match of the Day Live: Euro 2012 Sweden v England - a bunch of overpaid, egotistical ponces writhe round after tripping over daisies?
