We also get a V8 diesel, ML400, which looks like fun but can generate utterly terrifying bills if (when) it goes wrong. I think a few of them end up stripped to provide replacement lumps for the G400.
Is there also an E400 CDI? I'm sure I've seen a few around EuropeIt would appear so, a 260ps 4.0 V8 diesel E Class, I bet the torque is pretty impressive!

There was a time 25-30 years ago where almost every mainstream hatchback maker offered a cabrio of some sort.
What changed?
People came to their senses and finally realised that the weather in this country is terrible 99% of the time, thus rendering a cabrio almost completely pointless. What changed?
If you do have a Cabrio, you become 'that guy' who spends his entrire ownership of the car hoping desperately for that one day a year when it isn't 14c and overcast, meaning he can put the top down and not receive funny looks from other motorists.

The Astra was surely too racy. I picture her in a shabby metallic brown 1982 Cavalier in "considerably richer than yaw" CD spec, and an ashtray overflowing with Lambert and Butler fag ends.I bet the Queen Mother had an Astra GTE 16V
