It’s what Shmee150 would have looked like had he spent his family trust fund on plastic surgery, rather than cars.

We also get a V8 diesel, ML400, which looks like fun but can generate utterly terrifying bills if (when) it goes wrong. I think a few of them end up stripped to provide replacement lumps for the G400.
Is there also an E400 CDI? I'm sure I've seen a few around Europe

It would appear so, a 260ps 4.0 V8 diesel E Class, I bet the torque is pretty impressive!

Speaking of 4 wheel drive Mercs I'd never heard of while in the UK, on the continent they got a 1st gen ML500. I believe ours stopped at ML430 before the AMG ones
ML430 1st gen pre-facelift. ML500 1st gen post-facelift. (I had one wink )

Somebody on here worked at the dealer that converted them back in the day from memory
They were converted (for the European market at least) by a company called R&R Kupfer in Germany.

Naomi Cambell did the bodywork mods.

...funnily enough I actually did the retouching on the ‘Supermodels’ campaign.

I didn't know that Vauxhall had Royal Warrants with the Queen, Prince of Wales and Queen Mother

I bet the Queen Mother had an Astra GTE 16V

There was a time 25-30 years ago where almost every mainstream hatchback maker offered a cabrio of some sort.

What changed?
People came to their senses and finally realised that the weather in this country is terrible 99% of the time, thus rendering a cabrio almost completely pointless.

If you do have a Cabrio, you become 'that guy' who spends his entrire ownership of the car hoping desperately for that one day a year when it isn't 14c and overcast, meaning he can put the top down and not receive funny looks from other motorists.

Royal protection Omegas/Senators/Carltons?

Couple of Astramaxes and a Frontera for one's estates?

Vauxhall Belmont for the Gin deliveries from Thresher - biggest boot you can't pap..

I prefer to think that Charles knocks around in a Nova GSI smile

The Queen probably has a Monaro VXR

I thought that was what Harvey Weinstein is accused of doing? Allegedly.

The Astra was surely too racy. I picture her in a shabby metallic brown 1982 Cavalier in "considerably richer than yaw" CD spec, and an ashtray overflowing with Lambert and Butler fag ends.

At the other end of the scale, a 4 cyl 2l S Class (not in the UK) with cloth seats!

Friend of mine just bought one in GSi-spec, came with another Corsa B in full working order. Price was £395 for the pair.

What a pointless conversion. The only time you'd feel like you were in an open-top car is when it rains.
