Now that is proper weird ! I guess it must be articulated, hence what I first thought were vents - and the lack of room for the front wheels to steer in.

Saw a car this morning on German plates, some funky badge that I couldn't make out. The only lettering on the car was on the wing, which read 'AS.'

It was a family five door saloon, had lights on the back which sort of ran the entire bootlid in a V shape. On the front, a cheap and nasty chrome grille split in the middle, sort of BMW style.

It was absolutely disgusting, but does anyone know what it could be? The german plates were sat in a square recess on the boot which gives me an inclination that it could be something US/Jap?
Did you see a Cadillac ATS perhaps? Grille doesn't sound right though.

Yes, I wondered ATS or CTS but the grille is nothing like BMW and they don't have wing badges.

I thought Cadillac BLS when I read the description, but again, the grille and the AS badge don't sound right
Also for a BLS, I wouldn't have thought it would have a square plate recess as they weren't sold in North America

Cadillacs are sold in Europe anyway so would have an EU plate aperture.

But they’re also sold in North America, so that isn’t conclusive

The whole V-shaped rear light is making me think Cadillac but I think we have exhausted the possible models now

I like that its trailer is called ‘Evacuator’

Because import duties, type approval, registration etc would probably make that pointless if it is sold there. Not impossible obviously.

I was thinking of the cars that get imported by military personnel and sold on. I think there are still quite a few US bases in Germany

I only mentioned the plate recess for the BLS as I don't think there was ever a square version produced for it, so that would rule that out immediately

Anyway - we are clearly thinking along the same lines for our mystery car!

They had a generous bit of plastic and some lights around an EU size aperture.

I used to own one... and loved it at the time...getmecoat

I quite fancy a 2.8 turbo V6 one!

I used to have a Vectra with that engine and really liked it

I'd kill for an ATS-V or CTS-V

I'm with you there. Two of my very favourite cars of the last few years.

Cadillac and GM have been through a weird decade, it'll be interesting to see if GM can/will try to get Cadillac to compete with the big German car companies around the world again.

They somehow seem to be theoretically in the same market segment but without competing/overlapping, even in the US

Cadillac Supercruise is big in the game. I think you'll find in the next few years Cadillac's star will rise significantly.

Mine was the 1.9 diesel. paperbag It was OK, and respectably Not Slow, if not quick either.

Weirdly, I just needed a large diesel saloon and, post automotive media criticism, they were cheap as chips (£6k for a 20,000 miles car that was 18 months old, and that was in 2008). They were well-appointed, comfy and had a decent sound system.

Everyone used to talk to me about it. Everyone.
Most people asked me if it was pink if they hadn't seen it for themselves.

I got rid for an Octavia vRS when GM and Saab divorced because I wasn't doing the mileage to justify a diesel any more, and getting spares was awkward. Saab dealers didn't want to sell parts to me at the time. I couldn't be doing with the hassle, and GM didn't want to know. "Cadillac don't exist in the UK any more" was GM's line, rather like a dodgy phoenixing builder in my opinion.

Nice car, and the ATS looks great, but I have very little faith in GM Europe to support customers if Cadillac return and leave again. I got stranded by them (literally) once and would be reluctant to trust them again if they came back.

I’ve seen something about that. It sounded like the sort of thing Cadillac and GM needed if Cadillac is going to be a force like it once was. GM as well, for that matter!

Strange times. I didn’t foresee GM shedding a division that made nearly a million cars a year since the company as a whole didn’t seem destitute at the time

Cadillac are making big gains in the Chinese market so the EU will be less important especially as emissions get lower. The new ATS-K has lost its V8 to a turbo and the CTS has a 2.0.

I suppose it’s much like a Saab 93!

I actually keep my eye out for a cheap one. I have a thing for weird underdogs like that. I’d be happy to knock around in a good one (it’d have to be very cheap though) for the curiosity value

True, I think we can safely say that GM’s attention is on Asia rather than Europe!

I can’t see Cadillac being a big thing around here, but I’m glad that Cadillac is around in general
