Huh? amongst this and the Toyota Space Cruiser, Renault Espace, Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager and Mitsubishi Space Wagon contemporaries, they were very much a thing back then.

Jesus that's a blast from the past - used to get driven to school in one of these - part of a liftshare with a family that I couldn't stand - was utterly embarrassed to emerge from the sliding doors every morning. The Dad never went above 50mph, wore leather driving gloves in all temperatures and forced us to listen to Radio 4...
It was worse than being taken to school by the other parent in the liftshare group - he was a local butcher and the boot of his Renault estate was used for carting the meat around - always covered in sawdust and smelt strongly of raw meat...
At least my Mum had a chocolate brown Triumph Toledo which used to shake itself to pieces going downhill at over 50mph, we'd all sit in the back shouting "She cannae take any more Jim" a la Scotty in Star Trek at my Mum...

I remember the leather driving gloves brigade

Espace 84. Dodge caravan and all that is american ste and thus doesn't count, but if you must then 84 onward. Space wagon not even in the race - 86.
Prairie however was introduced as early as 81 in Japan and made it to Europe in 82. It was the first of that thing, certainly as we know it today.
We can all search wikipedia, and so yea maybe there are obscure things we can all find to support whatever... however I am right enough than i need to be on an Internet forum, and that's what counts.

Other way round. Space Wagon was 1983, Space Cruiser was 1 generation later (a shortened Space Wagon).Hobbes003 said:

Sure, it was somewhat new, yet little it introduced hadn't been seen in some similar form beforehand whether on VWs, Fords, Corvairs, Fiats or others in, of course, a cruder form. Neither did it appear and the whole industry scrabble to come up with a response, certainly the Espace and most likely other rivals were already in development.

Spotted this on another forum yesterday...
Rayton-Fissore Magnum. Based on an Iveco 4x4 chassis, intended as an Italian competitor to the Range Rover but ended up looking like a cross between a Nissan Prairie and a Fiat Uno.
Sticking the front lights off an Iveco Daily van also can't really have helped with making a product 'premium'.Rayton-Fissore Magnum. Based on an Iveco 4x4 chassis, intended as an Italian competitor to the Range Rover but ended up looking like a cross between a Nissan Prairie and a Fiat Uno.
I remember seeing one of these in Car magazine in the late 1980s, it had quite a smart interior.

But seriously.
First People carrier? Fiat Multipla 600.
Always liked the 512m for some reason but have never seen it with this rear wing: https://ddclassics.com/car-listing/left-hand-drive...
Presume it was a factory option?
